The Lollar single-coil P pickup I ordered came with installation hardware, but it doesn't seem right.

It came with springs and fine-threaded, flat-bottom screws -- the kind of setup I would expect for a Strat-style pickup install.

I was going to use wood screws and foam, but I'm at a loss for what screws would work best. Seems that typical P/J screws would be taller than necessary.

Can someone point me toward a part number or supplier?

I just looked at those on the website, and the base portion of the pickup doesn't appear to be threaded like a Strat pickup.  Even if you wanted to mount it to a pickguard like a Strat, you couldn't.  You're right.  To wood mount with foam and screws, P and J wood mounting screws are too long because they go through a 3/8" to 1/2" collar of the pickup cover, thus would go through the back of the body if trying to use.

My guess is that the person packaging for shipping lost track of what the pickups were and gave you the wrong hardware.  If you don't mind waiting, call them and have them send the correct hardware.  I've not had good luck finding wood screws at the hardware store for direct mount.  Once you start going that small, they're for small hobby stuff and they're gold or brass, or too short or too wide.

I seem to recall cutting them down to proper size , they are easy to cut just use some wire cutters and give it a bend or 2 and it will snap.
