2 F Hole Strat in the making!

Since placing the order in early February, I have feverishly searched google for similarities and read many, many posts on this great site about other peoples builds.  While I'm waiting,  :toothy10: I thought I'd share my project.

It's a chambered mahogany strat body and mahogany neck with a dark rosewood fretboard.  It will have 2 f holes on a cocobolo top, the body coated with a clear finish.  Also, I opted for a slab body, with no contours for the tummy cut or forearm.  It will have black binding on the top and bottom, to match the black sperzel locking tuners and black DiMarzio tone zone humbuckers ( one on top, one on bottom.)

I chose not to have Warmoth add any fretboard markers, although it will have side dots.  I kind of want to see it in person first, because I am having the neck finished by my good friend who is a luthier.  I may opt for abalone, we'll see what's available. It seems this guitar will have a striking natural wood feel, so I may choose to leave the fretboard unmarked.  The neck is a vintage Fender Clapton V, fingerboard radius 9.5, stainless steel 6100 frets. It will be set up with push pull knobs to spit the coils, with a three way toggle switch.

This is my first build, and have always loved Strats. I just sold a Fender TC-90 that I liked, but it just wasn't THE guitar... I'm looking for a nice full jazzy tone with the playability and feel of a strat.  I am expecting the guitar and neck sometime in early to mid April.  I will post pics the day I get it!!  :toothy12:

Dig it. I'd like to submit my vote for no fretboard markers, really classes it up IMO.

I realize now how lame it was to post this without pictures.  My appoligies.  Good news though, just got an email from UPS, so I'll be posting some pics on thursday!

To be honest I think it's hard to pull off a two f-hole (to my eyes) strat but I've seen a few that look cool. Looking forward to seeing the pictures because I like people who set out to do something different.

Paul Gilbert.  :party07:

Leave it without inlays. You'll get used to it. Nice body.... I want your body.  :laughing7: Welcome aboard, my friend! Can't wait to see this finished. Good call on outdoor pics, by the way.  :icon_thumright:

Not a big fan of F-holes, but I gotta say that's a very nice body. Gonna be a great guitar.

Where are the holes for the control knobs? :icon_scratch:

I am fortunate to be friends with a luthier here on the east coast, he's doin' the drilling and assembling.  I'm throwing two DiMarzio P90's in and having them coil tapped, with a three way les paul style switch.  :headbang1:

I think you're going to like it A LOT

Maybe twice as much as I like mine.
And I love mine.
:rock-on:

Ah I see. I would be scared that I would jack up the finish, drilling after the finish has been put on.

I keep coming back to this thread, Brian. Really stoked to see it put together. I love a good strat, and I LOVE P90s. Sexy combo you've got going, there. Post pics of the entire process, if possible. Then I can at least imagine it's being built for me.  :laughing7:

Hey thanks a lot, Tipperman.  I will keep ya posted for sure.  I just had the neck sprayed for a satin finish, so it's gonna sit for a week or so, and my buddy is drilling the holes and assembling, so I will post pics as soon as I get it back, maybe post some audio.  Thanks man!

Wow, that looks great!  I really like the double binding and the color of the hardware with that wood.  At first, I thought there was a shadow on the headstock, lol.

Is it uncomfortable without the tummy cut, etc.?  And no string tees, huh?

Congrats!

Thanks!! It's actually fine without the contours, but I'm kind of used to that body style. No string trees, yeah I'm waiting on the other locking tuners to come in that are graduated and will work better.
