I don’t often post in this sub forum, but I need to broadcast this far and not so wide (honk honk!).
I currently have 3 warmoths on my guitar stand. 2 of them now have unplayable necks. Just now! How? After 28 years of guitarrin’ and 18 years after being turned off to the 1-5/8” nut width on my musicman silhouette special, I decided to take a gamble on a warmoth with the narrow width.
Not only is the nut width not at all cramped as I remembered, it’s completely spoiled me and ruined the feel of my other two guitars, which I LOVED.
I played the new one for a week straight and picked up the others and was shocked at how blocky and broad the 1-11/16” necks felt. I had no issues with them prior.
My new one and oldest have 59 carves. The middle child has a standard thin. The narrow nut width changes the feel of the contour entirely and makes the edges of the fretboard disappear. On the wider necks, i notice the square edges and they are intrusive. Always had to round them over and still, no joy.
I’m eager to see what the standard thin in the narrow width feels like. I love the 59 in it. So much less of a handful it seems and stil has the big wood tone.
Negatives? If I let my fingernails grow a mm, I notice down at the nut. My fingers make straighter paths to the strings there and there’s contact with the board. That’s nothing a quick trim can’t address.
Looking back, it turns out the only thing I really hated about the musicman was the vintage fret wire. The joys of a dense mind.
