    Aging nitro finish (yellowing)

I did use clear over the olympic white.  Do not try the aged clear over the olympic white, it'll look horrible (sanded it off and started again).  Buy extra tips (stewmac sells a bag of em).  I did use spray cans and they worked great - used a handle with a trigger on it that you snap over the...

** VOTING RESET/RESTARTED ** VOTE HERE! April 2021 Guitar of the Month Contest

Congrats memecode! Man, Strats don't get any love in the GOTM contests. 1st Strat almost feels like a win! Wasn't sure I'd get any votes with a straightforward Strat

How often is Bocote available for necks?

Thank you.  Something to keep in mind with bocote is that it darkens quite a bit over time.  The pics above were when I first put it together and had used sandpaper on it to burnish the wood.  That brought out the light fresh bocote color.  Here it is today - 8 years later:

How often is Bocote available for necks?

I'd been looking for a bocote tele neck for some time after seeing them on the showcase.  I think I waited another year for more to come up after the first ones I saw because I never saw them as an order option but they were all strat headstocks.  I called to ask about ordering one and was told...

Want your guitar to be famous?

How about something completely different?  I started with a Warmoth body blank and paddle headstock.  Already have a bunch written up on it already with lots of pics along the way, etc.  I also have a green screen that I can shoot against.

    Tweed Princeton 5F2-A kit build

I built a 59 Strat tribute/clone this spring/summer and wanted a nice small amp to match.  I was looking at Champ kits at first but after a buch of research decided to build a Tweed Princeton 5F2-A - except in a cabinet sized between a Champ and the Princeton 5F2-A and a 10" speaker instead of...

'59 Strat tribute/clone finish (first) and build

The cabinet and speaker arrived thursday and it looks and sounds awesome! I'd finished the chassis a couple months ago. To oxidize the hardware I used muriatic acid fumes. Bought NOS knobs and fuse holder, repro tube chart, and repro Fender badge. Haven't decided if I want to use the badge...

    Aging nitro finish (yellowing)

Recently built a '59 Strat clone/tribute that I finished in Colortone Vintage White Nitro and Nitro clear on the neck (a couple light coats of vintage tinted covered by satin).  I wanted it to look like a well cared for vintage instrument so I looked into what yellows nitro (UVB) - and I found a...

Soloist in a PRS-style Dragon Breath stain pattern

WOW - the tuner knobs are an awesome touch!  :headbanging: Thanks so much for the time lapse videos, I'm going to have to play around with it a bit.  One question - it looked like you used the same applicator for all the different colors, did I see that right, or just missed it? On not popping...

'59 Strat tribute/clone finish (first) and build

I'll post on here for sure. I'm hoping to have it done by the next owner finished GOM and it'll be in the pic. It'll be a clone of a Fender Princeton 5f2-a 5w tube amp with a 10" Weber speaker and a cabinet sized right between a Champ and a Princeton. All the parts except the cabinet will be...

'59 Strat tribute/clone finish (first) and build

Thanks.  It just didn't feel right putting it in a new case.  Last piece of the pie is a 59 amp clone I'm building :headbang:.  Going to be 2 or 3 months probably before that's done though.

'59 Strat tribute/clone finish (first) and build

I also picked up an 80's tweed case off ebay that had an interior configuration that looked like the 59's that I was finding online.  I cleaned it up, shellac'd with amber tinted shellac, and then covered in a couple coats of aged clear nitro cellulose lacquer and then clear satin.  Masking...
