    Staining flamed maple

I’d like to stain a flamed maple neck in a dark amber color with mucho grain popping. My desired method would be Liquid stain from Stewmac diluted in denatured alcohol. What’s the best way go get an even finish? I know staining figured maple can be a pita (don‘t ask how I know)… How fine...

    Wudtone Topcoat

Anyone experienced with the Wudtone Top Coat? What is it made of- an oil varnish like Tru Oil? Is it durable? Unfortunately less information on the Wudtone website…Thanks!

    Removing Wudtone?

None of the solvents worked. I‘ve showed the body to an old carpenter who’s restoring antique furniture. He just said: „sand more! Forget about the solvents!“ It seems to work: 100-120-180 and maybe 240. Much ellbow grease!

    Removing Wudtone?

Thanks. Still waiting for an answer from wudtone. Since it‘s made of different natural oils, waxes and Kolophonium maybe real turpentine will work? Maybe I‘ll give that a try besides paint thinner.

    Removing Wudtone?

Hi, I‘ve finished a body with wudtone but I wasn‘t too happy with the color so I‘ve sanded the whole finish down. Unfortunately there are leftovers of the old finish in deeper pores (swamp ash)…any idea how to remove them or better, which solvent can I use? Naphta and Acetone doesn’t work. Any...

Sanding a neck before oil staining

Thanks, yes Warmoth. But I‘ve been recommended to sand it (back) to 240 or even 180 grit. So my question is what is best before applying oil stain (NOT TruOil), am I good to go with 240? Thanks

Sanding a neck before oil staining

Hi guys, I‘d like to stain a one piece maple neck with an oil stain (wudtone or a similar stain). Since there are different instructions  :help:- how fine should I sand the neck/fretboard before applying the stain? I‘d like to achieve a super smooth surface in the end. I guess it mustn‘t be...

    Burnishing Raw Necks

Thanks! Nope, my neck is already fretted and I guess I‘ll have to leave the fretboard unfinished- no dealbreaker as long as I don‘t get a difference in color while burnishing the rest of the neck. And thanks for your offer, but I‘m located in germany  :occasion14:

    Warmoth frets

I know, I was talking just about the stainless steel frets from Warmoth made by Jescar. But the measurements are like Jescar

    Warmoth frets

Thanks. I thought only the stainless steel frets were made by Jescar.

    Warmoth frets

What frets are used by Warmoth? Dunlop, Jescar? Just curious.

    Burnishing Raw Necks

Thanks. You sand the wood in both directions, following the grain?

Music Man finish on Warmoth roasted maple necks?

I really like Truoil on wood and it works perfect on roasted maple. You can apply 4-5 thin coats and buff it down to the desired satin feel. MM applys a final coat of Truoil Wax above which adds more smootheness and protection. The wax contains silicone, dunno if that’s good news. I‘m not sure...

Will the sanding/burnishing change the color of a roasted maple neck?
