    Koa Carved Top Soloist

Thanks for the kind words guys. I like the look of a nice piece of maple too, but not as a fretboard. Don't know why, but I don't seem to get on with maple boards at all. Might be because I've been playing on rosewood boards for 13 years or so.

    Age of Unofficialwarmoth Members Poll

26 and dying for another chance at the past 8 years (Warmoth decisions excluded).

    Your 'baby', your first guitar

First guitar was a Yamaha Pacifica 112. Sold it to a friend's sister 9 years ago. She played it for six months and put it in a cupboard. It was then sold a year and a half ago to a friend who was starting out, and it's still with him, going strong. I liked the Pacifica so much, my second guitar...

    Warmoth E-Store now International

That's about right - if my next Warmoth order costs me $1,000 (which I have every reason to suspect it will!), it will work out, with present exchange rates, to about £510. It makes Warmoth absolutely mindblowing value for money for us Brits. Can't wait to order my next build.

New Build Plan - any thoughts?

Hmm, I'm liking the sound of an unfinished wenge neck, and not just because it'll save me $95! The idea has taken a slightly different direction though. The woods remain the same, but the body style has changed. I'm now thinking of an LP style body, building my own version of a PRS Mark...

    Bengal Burst LP

That fingerboard is awe-inspiring, it's one of the nicest pieces of wood I've ever seen! The whole guitar looks great - it's one hell of a piece of craftsmanship. In fact I'd say it is bordering on being a work of art.

New Build Plan - any thoughts?

Cheers for the replies all. I got the idea about black korina for the neck after seeing one in the showcase, but that may well be gone by the time I order. I knew there was something I meant to mention - sound!  I'm after a Mark Tremonti kind of sound - Les Paulish, but not a Les Paul. A...

New Build Plan - any thoughts?

Started seriously planning my next build after playing my first since the summer and loving every second of it. The neck is the best profile i've ever played, and I now want a compound radius fretboard on every guitar I own (which I'm sure someone on here told me would happen!) So, the plan: VW...

What do I do for the next 10-12 weeks?

I use the Kisekae thing all the time, mainly to test an idea out to see if it's worth costing. Don't use Excel though - I'm a writer and designer, so no good with spreadsheets. I just use a list in Notepad with the costs added up on the PC's calculator!

Advantages of a Wilkinson 2-point bridge over a Fender one

The Wilkinson has the advantage of having a slightly bigger tone block than the standard US Fender trems. Also, it has a drop-in trem arm, which is tightened in place by a soft insert in the collar. This means you can have the am swinging free/loose,  so tight is won't move, or pretty much...

It's just a clear finish on a fantastic piece of koa. I got so lucky with that it's untrue!!

Warmoth withdrawl (and a new build plan + request for advice)

^ It went back to have the volume pot relocated, and a 2 way mini switch put in the vol pot's original postion. The only reason I took it to him is because I don't have a pillar drill for drilling the new hole. I didn't fancy drilling a new hole with a hand drill.  I'm no electronics genius, but...

Warmoth withdrawl (and a new build plan + request for advice)

I think I'm getting withdrawl from Warmoth! My Soloist has been with the tech being tweaked for the last 3 weeks or so, so I've only actually had it in my playing possession for 5 days. Given that I was planning the thing in January, and ordered in March, I've now been waiting a while. The...

    Bareknuckle Pickups

I've got a couple of sets of Bareknuckles - a Wapig set in my Warmoth Soloist, and a Mule set in a Les Paul. They are excellent pickups, and the customer service is great - your questions are answered by the guy who designs and builds the pickups, not a rep who only has half an idea of whay...

korina / ziricote / padouk soloist just out of the box

That's a really nice looking guitar man. I'm a big fan of the Soloist shape, got one myself (few shots are in the gallery). Haven't played it in 3 weeks cos it's at the tech's place being tweaked, but it's an awesome instrument, and by the looks of things, yours is going to be too. Good luck...
