Wood plug in jack cavity - what is it?

If it's only to make room for the jack, why wouldnt' they just rout out a bit of the side of the cavity?

Wood plug in jack cavity - what is it?

Just got my Strat body from Warmoth, and in the output jack cavity, there is a wooden plug in the bridge end of the cavity. (See photo.) The hole in the middle of the plug doesn't lead anywhere, it's only about 1/2" deep. Anyone know what this is? It would seem like overkill, but my only guess...

    Lock washers and copper tape

I've covered my pickguard with copper tape, and now installing my CTS pots. Usually I would use the star (lock) washer  between the pot and pickguard to help keep the pot from twisting around if it gets a little loose, but not sure if this would trash the copper tape too much. And/or not make a...

    Duplicating neck profile

I have a Strat neck I love and would like to duplicate it's profile on another neck with a very similar profile, a Warmoth Standard Thin roasted maple neck whose shoulders are a little big for me. I see many people make molds of their favorite neck using Thermomorph, solder, etc. I like that...

    Callaham tremolo brightness

I've read numerous accounts of the Callaham tremolos being very bright. I'm wondering if anyone has tried their tremolos with the brass block, available at specialtyguitars.com? ( https://www.specialtyguitars.com/p/03-05254.html ) If so, what are your thoughts? Less bright? This would be on a Strat.

    Fender 2-point tremolo insert depth

It looks like with the trem at rest position, the bevel of the bridge plate knife edge is very, very close to touching the top of the bushing. A thin piece of paper just slides between... I think too close for comfort. I'm guessing things shift around a little in time, especially with a new...

    Fender 2-point tremolo insert depth

Hello - I just received a Strat body and had the inserts from a Fender 2-point tremolo installed. (Not by Warmoth.) The inserts are not flush to the body, they rise slightly above the body, about half a millimeter. Is this okay? I thought the plate is supposed to pivot on the wood, but in this...

Strat pickup cover for rear rout

I plan to build a rear-rout Strat, and plan to direct mount the single coils, no pickups rings. For this particular build, I actually like how the pickup's "flange", the v-shaped tab protruding from the pickup's base, is visible. But the pickups I have are white and I want them to be black. Does...

Amber Dye Burst and Multiple Finishes

Nice! I hadn't considered that it's the finish on the back that may require the mild burst on the top, so it's a smooth transition. Though I'm a little surprised yours has the burst, since the back is amber dye as well, and you have binding (or masked accent?) What's the core wood on yours?

Amber Dye Burst and Multiple Finishes

Looking at examples of the Amber Dye finish, it looks like it's almost always a mild burst, with the edges slightly darker than the rest. Is that Warmoth's standard Amber Dye finish? Asking because the image shown under "Your Design" in the custom body builder doesn't show the darker edges...
