That's interesting. It seems like you'd have an advantage if you were the type that did a lot of MIDI phrases, and played around with heavy soft synths.

come to think of it, tuning to drop D on a four would leave you with just about 3 semitones or so short.

Personally, after trying my hand at bass for about a week, I felt like I wanted to go lower than the standard low E. Trying a couple out is probably good advice.

Yeah, there are many interesting trems out there that hold tune well. Do a bit of searching around and you'll probably be glad you did. The jazzmaster is an excellent choice in my opinion, and going with a white finish like that should complement the neck.

You could try a spacer, perhaps.

The chameleon finishes are something I've only seen in the showcase. you could do a filter search there and see what you can see. If you haven't emailed Warmoth about it already, it would be a good move.
