I have an alder body that I want to finish in a dark translucent lacquer.
Is the following sequence correct?
Sanding
Filler (optional with alder)
Sanding
Some sort of sealer (a thin coat of lacquer or shellac?)
Dark dye
Lacquer
You seal before the dye so it doesn't soak in the end grain right...
I'm still not sure what screws to use with my no pickguard strat body.
I found these diMarzio p-bass pickup screws that measure about 30mm or 1.18".

I made a number of mistakes I would like to recount. Any suggestions are welcome.
I have a swamp ash body I plan on tru-oiling. I wanted to enhance the grain a bit so I decided to tint the filler which was neutral to begin with so I bought a dark brown powder dye from woodcraft.

I have a guitar that I stripped, stained and oiled about maybe 6 years ago. I think it's time for a new coat. Especially the neck.
Thing is, I have no idea what kind of oil it was, because it was a guitar repairman just gave it to me.
Do you think I could just put the steel wool to it and use...

I can't seem to find filler. I now, weird bur true. Everyone thinks I'm talking about either primer or putty.
Anyway, I found a filler in 2 parts that you mix before applying which is nitro-based. (whatever that means). Do you think that will do?
-CB-, thanks for the advice.
Have you tried the method I'm talking about? (Birchwood-Casey's manual recommends it) Weren't the results good?
Have you tried black filler? (if, of course, it exists)
