    Burnishing Raw Necks

I’ve applied Tru Oil to burnished necks, really brings out the grain. I used 3 thin coats, buffing with 3M polishing papers after each coat. Finish with some good paste wax and buff. Roasted flame maple, burnished with Tru Oil: Another method I just tried is a product called Howard...

VOTE HERE! September 2020 Guitar of the Month Contest

I probably picked a bad month to enter, but good luck to all.

Railmammer pickups have excellent clarity, especially on the bottom end. I think Reverend used these on their baritone models, at least for a while. I happened to have the HV bridge on hand from a trade, and found a set of the Gnarly 90s on CL for a good price. I think they’re a good choice for...

Wax and oil finish on burnished roasted maple

I recently saw a product called Howard Feed-N-Wax on one of the FB Warmoth groups. I happened to be at Home Depot shortly after, and bought a bottle. It’s a blend of carnuba and beeswax, with orange oil, and is intended as a finish for raw wood. I recently completed the build of my fretless...

    Gaaah! My pickups don’t fit!

I have a set of Gnarly 90s, and a Hyper Vintage bridge pickup. I’m probably going to use the HV bridge and Gnarly 90 neck. I think Warmoth just messed up on the pickup rout. I’m considering my options on fixing it. I think I know what I’m going to do, but I’d like to hear from Warmoth first.

    Gaaah! My pickups don’t fit!

I looked up the dimensions of a HB cover, and everything I found said 1.5” x 2.75”. I measured several covered HBs in my guitars, and they all measure within a few thousandths of the nominal dimensions. The long dimension makes sense, there’s about .012” on each end which allows for tolerance...

    Gaaah! My pickups don’t fit!

I did email customer service. Not that I'm going to return this for something fixable, but they might want to check their CNC setup. Something is not quite right, and I'm sure they don't want a bunch of annoyed customers.

    Gaaah! My pickups don’t fit!

As far as I can find out, 1.5 x 2.75 is standard for HB pickup covers. Not sure why they didn't get it right. I can probably fix it, but I really should't have to. Minor nit, but I want it to look clean when I'm done.

    Gaaah! My pickups don’t fit!

Just tried my Railhammer pickups in my Jazzmaster pickguard. The pickup openings are basically exactly the same size as the covers. There are no specifications given for the pickup openings. The pickups measure 1.5” by 2.75”, while the openings measure 1.495” by 2.775”. The length is OK, but the...

    Jazzmaster

I'm not. The original routing was SSS. I had it changed to HSH, but left the pickguard as HxH. I have a set of Railhammer pickups I'm planning on using. I have a pair of Gnarly 90s, and a bridge Hypervintage HB, with coil splitting. I'll probably go with the bridge HB and neck P90.

    Jazzmaster

Just received today. Roasted swamp ash body. Got this from the showcase, already routed for recessed TOM bridge and SSS pickups. I changed the pickups to HSH, but had the pickguard routed HxH. I have a fretless baritone neck that I need to finish up and some hardware to buy to complete the...

New Video: Warmoth - Where's My Order?

A few pics. Never did anything like this, definitely a learning experience. Slow going, but I’m learning.

New Video: Warmoth - Where's My Order?

Got my shipping notification yesterday (which happened to be my birthday) for the Jazzmaster body I ordered in April. I made a change after I placed the order, so I wasn’t expecting it until June anyway.  Perfect timing, but now I have to get back to work on the neck. Been busy with a ukulele build.

    Future project: Jazzmaster

Just placed the order for this Jazzmaster body. I’m having the SSS routing changed to P90s, and I’m going with a black pearl pickguard and black hardware. I know it’s going to be a while before it ships, but I have another project in the meantime. Couldn’t resist this beautiful roasted swamp...
