Your new favourite beer

If we're sharing favourites, I'll throw mine in:

Chambly Noire, brewed in Chambly, Québec by Unibroue, a brewery founded by rocker Robert Charlebois.

American beer is like making love in a canoe:

Correction, American macro-brew is like making love in a canoe.  We do have hundreds of great craft breweries, you know.  Don't forget, we have Stone brewing company which makes Arrogant Bastard, and all kinds of other breweries making everything from Old Rasputin Imperial Russian Stout to Pete's Wicked Strawberry Blonde to Abita Purple Haze.

My personal favorite as far as American beer goes is this stuff:

I keep trying to enjoy beer, really I do. Kansas City has Boulevard beer so ingrained in the culture that you're kind of a jerk if you don't drink it. I just can't get into something bubbly without caffeine in it.

I have been known to carry a half pint of peppermint schnapps in my coat pocket, though.

I don't care for beer either.
That barley/whatever flavor is just plain out nasty to me. A sip or two is good, but gulping down beer makes me want to vomit. :dontknow:

Come in Belgium and you'll be aware of what a GOOD beer really is... :occasion14:

AAAAGH! where to start - so many good ideas!

I could probably do coffeebeer. Only problem is, that I'd probably do it too well.

Coffeebeer would be the death of me.

Vive le Québec - malheureusement je déménage en Alberta pour ma job. Mais c'est correct - je suis originalement franco-ontarien, faque j'aurais jamais pu être québecois!

Never was a beer drinker, first I liked was Guiness, then Kilkenny - I think it's more about the texture for me...
I like the CIRCUMSTANCES that you drink beer in much more: wings, bbq, jammin, etc etc etc.

My $0.02.

I gotta tell ya, while in vegas I could not find a good beer to save my life.  The best I could find was sam addams - which is OK I suppose, but not what I expect out of sin city.

Currently I'm enjoying this stuff:

Having said that, variety is the spice of life.  Planning a little trip to Montreal with a bunch of friends.  I imagine quite a bit of Unibroue products will be consumed then...

You should have gone to Nine Fine Irishmen.  They at least have Guinness.

Hanaugh, I have almost the exact same beer taste as you - Anderson Valley = awesome, Fat Tire = gross, black beers of all kinds = usually great. The East Coast has lots of good beer to discover as well, but I'm very partial to the stuff made between San Francisco and Seattle in general. If you are ever in New York, get a Brooklyn Lager (the regular one, not one of the special brews).

I had been looking forward to real cask ale from English pubs for almost 20 years, but I found them to be a bit disappointing once I finally got there, there was actually not much variety at any of the places I went to. Basically Bitter to IPA, and their flavors were much more similar to each other than the American versions. Most disappointing = entering a Kensington High Street pub and asking the barmaids "what stout or porter do you have?" and not being understood at all by the Polish staff, settling for a (delicious) Guiness in the end.

Add cream ale to your list and that's pretty much my taste, Tfarny.

Germany is the place to go for good beer.  Ireland had good beer too, but only had a variety some of the time.  Most of the pubs just had Guinness and some sort of amber.  Germany on the other hand almost always had at least one local brew, and even though it was kind of fizzy compared to what I usually drink, the quality was great at most places.  In Nuremburg we went to this underground tavern that brewed their own beer, and they had my favorite beer of the whole trip.  The place was called Bar-Fusser or something like that, which I believe means bare-footed or something.  Or bear feet...

I know Germany is the country for beer rather than England, but I did homebrewing for about 15 years and may do it again at some point soon. For homebrewing, the british styles (Ales) are far easier to do - Porter is probably the easiest style to make to a high standard. So, I've got a whole bunch of knowledge and experience with british style beers, I guess my expectations were too high.  German styles require more care with temperatures and cellaring (lagering), it gets hard to do at home unless you have a dedicated fridge or two in your garage.

I want to do home brewing at some point.  That just sounds like ridiculous amounts of fun.  What did you use equipment-wise when you did that?  I see those Mr. Beer kits at Bevmo, but they just seem kind of like the Easy Bake Oven of brewing.

Just go straight to all-grain after doing a couple batches of extract brew. Since you're a tinkerer and DIYer at heart, you won't want to mess with the kiddie stuff. It's not as hard as people think. Hardest part is washing everything. It is very very satisfying to start with a big pile of barley and some hops and a little packet of yeast and end with a ridiculously good ale in your hand.
In your neighborhood you've got 'more beer' which is a fantastic shop / web store. They've got everything you'll ever need, but I'd buy hops closer to the source. Awesome hops, properly stored, are key:

Way much more to come....

No need to LOL at me.. Last time I checked, taste was individual. I think that stella was the best beer I tasted in London, and if you have anything against it - please keep it to yourself and don't LOL me.

:)
