Got another package in the mail! :cool01:

A young aspiring guitarist friend, after playing a couple of the guitars I've been assembling, approached me about making one for him. He's a super talented young guy that hasn't had too many breaks in life, so I just couldn't say no. So, here we go with another project!

This is going to be a Musiclander with a right hand reverse CBS neck done in all Indian Rosewood, 1-5/8" nut, Clapton contour with S6150 frets. Along with a Wilkinson trem it will have BK Irish tours in the Neck and middle, with a Nailbomb at the bridge.

Any guesses on what color he wants the quilt done in?  :dontknow:

Nah, no trick. Just wanted to see if anyone else would come up with the same color as my friend did. So far no winners!  :dontknow:

Nice! Trans neon orange? Or Y for yellow maybe?

Could I ask a favour of you Ddbltrbl - while you have the body to hand - and ask you to measure it? Just the overall length x width would be great. I have plans on the drawing board for a musiclander with a scratchplate and while I'm probably pretty close having scaled it from pics, it would be good to know more definitely.

Well, pretty close Pete! Actually, he is asking for a yellow gold dye job!

No problem on the measurements, but since it is such an odd shape I'm not sure exactly what measurements you need. ???

At the widest point it is 12 3/8" (right angle to the centerline). And, from the tip of the upper horn to the lower tip on the bottom (measured parallel to the neck) it is almost exactly 18". Not sure if that helps, but let me know if you need more.

Wow - for some reason, the offset waist is way more visible from the back than from the front. IIRC, there's been discussions here before about whether it was indeed offset, or optical illusion. I thought it was supposed to be a strat with chunks damaged by forklift. Too bad they don't make a Musiclander with the missing chunks still intact.

Those are the measurements I needed - many thanks! I had the width just about spot on but about 1/4" too long.

The yellow gold dye sounds promising - should go really nicely with that neck.

The benefits of being UW's resident vintage purist is that I know this stuff. :icon_biggrin:

The musiclander/swinger/arrow was a cheap parts guitar put out by fender right around the time of  the CBS takeover. It was put together using various reshaped bodies, mostly leftover bodies from the hideous and unpopular bass V. At the time,  Fender had a lot of parts leftover from musicmasters, so the swinger was essentially a more modern looking musicmaster, with one pickup, a three saddle bridge, and a reshaped "arrow" headstock. It was sold on the cheap by door to door salesmen.

Quite sexy, I think.

BTW, Pete - I can't wait to see this musiclander of yours, it should be good.

You'll have to I'm afraid - that one's in the months/years/never category at the moment.

I know what you mean - I'm  sitting on a mustang, a swinger, a slide tele, a strat, and a modular guitar... And I'm broke. Oh, the joys of being 14.

I'll trade you - your 14 for my 46 (and still broke).

As one matures and develops the ability to manage goals, one find ways to remain completely broke all the time in a refined & more nuanced and directed fashion.

Yeah, that's me at 4 x 14!  :laughing7: :occasion14:

Pete, I was given some thought to doing my own front rout on one of these, but too many other projects lined up ahead of it! So, be sure an post some pictures of your monster when you get around to doing it!  I'd love to see it!

How about we split - we can both be 30.

I wouldn't dream of depriving you of the years from 14 to 30, even if it meant me being 30 again, that's the most important part of your life - just make sure you grab it with both hands my friend.

Thanks too for the link - I already have that plan but don't think it's quite right for Warmoth's or Fender's.

Ddbltrbl, you're tempting me to shunt this up the list - who needs a 12-string anyway?
