Will my new neck need fret work?

I've been fortunate on fretwork and the two necks I've had are very good right out of the box, and just needed some work on the ends.  The harder question is where to find a good tech who is not of the "guitar-center-taught-me-how-to-do-string-changes" variety.  Its getting to be a lost art, which is why everyone should start doing things like this themselves...plus its fun. :)

I do that work, I do it well, and for a reasonable price. I also don't care if the frets are stainless or gold. I also install threaded inserts. The only downside is shipping back and forth to/from Michigan, but if it's just the neck, that's not so bad. Moving around whole guitars can get pricey, though, because it's considered an "oversize" box and prudence dictates the need for insurance.

Thanks Cagey
that actually looks like nice technology, it is doing what techs have been doing for years and computer controlling it.
My take is it is a great thing, and at the same time a bad thing.
you know the old, computer vs human mojo thing.
but wow I did not know there was someone doing that.

The technology itself is actually fairly old, it's just a more recent application of it. It's simply a lightweight 3 axis CMM/CNC machine with multiple end effectors and some application-specific software. The surprise is that nobody did it sooner.

Sounds interesting...

Would you be able to do this if I have the neck shipped directly to you from Warmoth?

Dress ends
Level
Crown
Polish
Install schaller mini lockers
Set up truss rod
Install threaded inserts

Basically to give me a perfect neck I can just plug n play?

Absolutely.

Ok.

I'm in Florida in April. If Warmoth can get the neck ready in time, we can discuss $ and maybe arrange them to ship it to you, then you can send it on to my vacation address?

I'd rather use someone on here who knows what they are doing than an unknown back home in the UK.

I trust you'll do a real nice job - I'm a PITA for quality and detail.  :laughing7:

Your trust is well-placed, and I'm at least as big a PITA about the same things. I've been playing and doing setups for a long time (40 years in all), and know what works and why.
