Why is the order earvana different from those in hardware section?

If you look at the neck builder options the Earvana looks like a regular nut with some drilled holes...
But in the hardware section it has those steps that goes closer to the first fret.

I really don't get this! If I ordered a neck with (the drilled) Earvara and accidently messed up the string height, I couldn't just buy another Earvana nut because it looks completely different.

Help!!!!

The builder is just wrong. Without the steps towards the first fret, there's nothing the nut can do to affect intonation.

The ones in the builder look straight but the notches in it are not, the ones in the hardware section are for retrofitting guitars with a normal cut nut slot.

I think:

the one in the hardware section is a retrofit so overhangs the fingerboard, whereas on the neck builder they cut a different slot and install a nut where the compensation occurs within its dimensions.

Happy to be proven wrong again.

There are four in the builder corian black and white and Tusq black and white. The nut slots for these are different to a normal nut slot.

The type(s) in the builder.

Installation of the Earvana nut requires widening the nut slot from 1/8" (3mm) to 1/4" (6mm). Therefore, if you wish to change from this nut to a conventional nut, the old slot must be filled in this area. This can be cosmetically unappealing and costly so it's a good idea to be sure that you like the Earvana nut before having a neck set-up for it.



Retrofit in the hardware section.

But what I meant was that it's weird I cannot buy the one they have in the builder in the hardware section.

Image I order a guitar from Warmoth with earvana; I screw up the string height when filing the nut and gotta get a new one. I couldn't buy one from Warmoth so I have to get it somewhere else.
Why not having the builder one in the hardware section?

I'll never understand why people don't call Warmoth with these questions. Even if you're overseas, it's not gonna be an expensive call. It's not like calling the government or Microsoft something, where you're going to be put on hold and/or transferred 37 times, spending 3 hours getting half an unreliable answer that doesn't make sense. When you call Warmoth, you don't get a receptionist or an operator - it's knowledgeable people who answer the phone directly. Ask your question, get an answer RFN, and you're done. I've made calls to them to find things out about neck construction that have lasted less than a minute including introductions, pleasantries, answers and thanks.

Not to discourage asking questions here - there's a lotta experience and willing high-end talent floating around this board - but when you really need to know something authoritive, Warmoth is the ultimate source.

Calling Warmoth is slightly impractical for me because of the big time difference, but they're really good at replying to emails, as well.
