Who would do this!?!?!

This one could be a victim of the 70s 'blond and brass' wave.

The mid-late 70s were a time of 'soft rock,' granola and Rocky Mountain herbal therapy, and a lot of people took it out on their guitars. Macrame straps, clear finishes, etc. Can't remember where I read it, but someone in in interview talked about stripping a sunburst Les Paul back to bare wood and changing the nut out for brass and how it was, at that time, the thing to do.
And of course they're now kicking themselves...

The best thing about the 70s? They ended. They were so bad they became the 80s!

I remember those times. Saw a lotta natural finishes and brass nuts, as well as brass blocks epoxied in routes under bridges. Guilty of it myself, truth be told. We also used to dismantle real Gibson PAFs and "balance" them.

Silly humans.

When I first got my 66 super reverb, all of the tolex was removed, the wood was sanded, and clear gloss was put on.  In addition the grill cloth was removed and burlap was put in it's place.

The final sacrilege was someone blasting a hole in the front panel to add a master volume control (shudder).

Someone who should never breed.   :tard:

A bass player!!!! :party07:

After reading a thread that is now locked I realized this was a very dangerous statement. It is nice to see that just because a guy couldn't cut it as a guitarist and had to resort to the bass he was still able to keep all the ego and attitude of a 6 string shredder. :guitarplayer2:

I quoted myself because I am that awesome.

Only thing i will say to that is that i never tried guitar to begin with, i went straight to bass, so thanks a lot.  :sad1: :tard:

And hachikid was the main culprit to that thread, i just stated a few players, then all my other contributions were related to the OP's questions,

Some times people just take themselves too seriously. I know I may have done it once or twice or three times on the forum. I guess when you feel passionate about something your gonna argue with a passion.  The insults is the part that  sucks. Once you pull a DB move your credibility goes out the window. Besides that bassplayers are great guys. Never met one I didn't like. Tele players on the other hand..............  :icon_scratch:  :dontknow:  :laughing7:

Hey, ya wanna rag on bluegrass musicians for a while? :evil4:

After being subjected to hours of bad Mariachi in my apartment complex, I am very grateful for bass players.  Without bass guitar and upright bass, it would probably be very common to have the bass notes played by tubas, and then everything would either sound like Mariachi or Polka.  And then I would have to throw up... often.  :laughing7:

OR worse yet, organ.  Then we'd have a lot more bands that sound like The Doors.  And nobody wants that.

The hat is what definitely solidified the bluegrass image.  True story....at the October fest here in Pueblo they serve corona and tecate and the polka band does a set of tejano favorites. It's hilarious.

With bass......
