Which screws for tremolo claw (Soloist)?

What screws do I need for the tremolo claw on my new Soloist build? I can't seem to find anything specifically for that, in the webshop. Would the neck screws work? I have some extras lying around.

I just noticed that you are building a soloist. Im not sure about them. I thought you were talking about a strat. Whatever you do make sure you do not go too deep and come out through the top of the body. On a strat not a disaster because they have pickguards 99% of the time. Pictures I brought up of soloists don't have pickguards so be careful drilling and installing too long a screw.

Warmoth doesn't sell screws specifically for mounting trem claws, because any tremolo system you buy that includes a claw will come with them already provided.


Neither neck screws, nor the bridge screws linked to in the OP will work.


Easiest thing is to buy an after-market claw. It will come with the appropriate screws.


If you are trying to use an old claw you have laying around, I would say go to the hardware store and grab some #8 wood screws, 1-3/4", round Phillips head. You'll need to double check the diameter of the screws vs the size of the pilot holes. That's where I would start.

Trem claw screws are not "aimed" towards the top of the guitar. They are aimed towards the neck pocket. There's no chance they are going to go through the body.

The neck screws I had lying around worked fine. I'm getting closer and closer to finishing my Neon Orange beast

Quick note, the Bladerunner Super Vee tremolo kit I bought did not come with a claw. Also, the claw I bought did not come with screws (it came prewired with a ground wire though, which is why I bought that particular claw).

I think it would be a good idea for Warmoth to sell screws that fit the holes they drill for the claw. Esp. since it's just a standard screw, it seems.

10-4, mine too. They are perfect matches for strats. I just wasn't sure about a soloist, per se. :hello2:

Neck screws have a flat head, which is countersunk (tapered) on the underside.


Trem claw screws have a round head, which is flat on the underside.


You can use neck screws to mount a trem claw in a pinch, but it's not ideal. The flat underside of the round head on a proper trem claw screw gives the trem claw a more stable surface to sit up against when under tension....or more specifically, when under all the varying degrees of tension that are applied to it during tremolo bar use.


Since it's the tremolo, vis-a-vis the tuning stability of the instrument, that is at stake, I personally would opt for the ideal in this case. Especially considering the ideal is neither expensive nor hard to find.

Using flathead/countersunk necks screws may indeed work just fine for the OP. I've certainly seen lots and lots of trem claws installed with them over the years, so they must be workin' good enough for lots and lots of people.


Seems weird to me, but what do I know?

Just to learn something, I checked the images on Warmoth's site:

Fender supplies one kind of screw, Floyd Rose supplies the other.

In my experience an ovalhead claw screw is quite suitable because it is often the case that you cannot get the screws to go in perfectly straight, and so getting the bottom of the screwhead to make flat contact against the claw is pretty close to impossible.

And by the way, the best claw must surely be Schaller’s adjustable one. Complete with screws of course

With the Schaller Sure Claw, depending on the thickness of body and pickup configuration it may not always work out to be as straightforward as it appears.
