So I'm pretty positive I'm going with Lollar pickups for my new Tele Thinline build. (See the "Inferno" thread on the DIY Finish board.)
For the neck position (tele neck) I'm open to suggestion but I'm definitely thinking in the lines of something that'll give me a very chimey, buttery, clean. Almost more strat neck clean kind of sound.
For the bridge, it'll need to be more versatile and be able to get very dirty. I play in a couple of cover acts so the bridge will need to handle a range of dirty, from ZZ Top-ish tones to Nu-Metal type stuff. I realize this is 75% amp and gain (I'll be using a Carvin Legacy 3 head) - but I'm just looking to avoid the whole, "Great pickups but they won't really handle THAT kind of sound too well".
I've asked time and again of friends and on here if Lollars are right for this sort of versatility and the answer is always, "Just GET THEM". :icon_biggrin: Where I'm stuck however is that all of the sound clips of the bridge humbuckers I've found online don't seem to offer sound samples much dirtier than a ZZ Top type of tone. So I guess my next question is, OK I'll go with the Lollars at high recommendation, but WHICH?
Right now after listening to sound samples on their site it looks as if the Imperial High Wind, and the El Rayo are the closest to that ballpark, but I'd love to hear everyone elses opinions as well.
