Where'd you buy paraffin wax?

I've never had the need to buy this until this whacky project.  they didn't have it at my local hardware store.  where do you buy paraffin wax in the 21st century?  know anyplace in manhattan?  i'd rather not buy a $3 item online and pay another $3 shipping.

They got it in the grocery store here, over by the stuff where ladies preserve stuff in jars.

Beauty supply maybe.  Isn't that the wax you stick your hands in to hydrate them?

You can seal jars or make candles; in the US the easiest to find is usually Gulf brand in grocery or hobby stores

they will have it at any good art supply store. They should also have it at any good fabric store as it is used for batiking..

I use a candle to wax screws? Are you doing a waxed finish? If that's the case, gunsmith guys would know more. Oh wait - you're potting pickups....

Also check craft stores and pharmacy type stores.

If your potting pups it helps to add 20% bees wax. It lowers the temp and it softens the wax.

thanks for the tips.  after scouring the grocery store, a hobby store, and a hardware store.  i ended up ordering online. it was cheaper than what i would have spent on subway fare running all over manhattan.  it seems canning is not a big activity with ladies in new york city.  go figure..
