I'm not missing it. I'm saying numerous categories are superfluous. If it's not an exemplary piece of work that stands out against all comers, whaddaya expect?
There's a folder for "Just Out of the Box" so you can show off what you've purchased, then there's a "Work in Process" folder where you can run threads to show what you're doing, there's a "DIY Finishing" folder for asking questions, passing along techniques, or showing off what you're doing yourself, then there are numerous folders targeted at specific guitar designs if you just want to exhibit your work. On and on. You can get all the validation of your wisdom and taste and admiration for your mad skills you need there, and it'll be pertinent.
So, why encourage people to enter a contest? Is it so important to have large numbers of entries? What's more appropriate for a contest is to encourage excellence and innovation. You don't enter a production-grade Chevy Camaro in the Autorama unless you've modified the hell out of it. What would be the point? It's no contest. Anybody can get a stock Camaro. All it takes is a reasonable credit rating.
All that said, I'm not against the contest. But, keep in mind what's being chosen: who came up with the guitar/bass most people would want this month?
