I'm in complete agreement that it's largely esoteric bullshiznit - but it's not entirely without merit, it's just that the merit, as you say, is so heavily cloaked in the twee posturing that it does indeed only reach the 5000 insiders.
My point was not to say "y'all just don't get it," but rather to suggest that our own sniggering parochialism is not necessarily the only valid perspective on Yoko, or modern art in general.
Lord knows I've felt the same way about my own career in the law as you did about your art career, on more than one occasion. That kind of disillusionment sucks your soul out, and I'm sorry you endured it - and glad for you that you pulled away rather than self-immolate.
Thank God we have guitars to help us regain perspective.
