What the....

Well... It is innovative. Of course, I can't imagine the need for one of them. Especially with that unlocking lever sticking out after it's folded.

I can't see me ever needing such a thing, but I imagine there are a lotta traveling players who've suffered damage to instruments as a result of airline baggage handling systems who might look at it. Damage is so common that even people who've never had it happen to their stuff are chock full of stories and know at least enough to be concerned.

Thing is, looking at the video, it looks like a fairly complex system, which says "expensive". If that's the case, then there are cases that are incredibly robust, and while they're not cheap, I gotta think they cost less than that mechanically complex system that's still gonna require a case of some sort.

Besides, what does that system do for those who want to play their particular instrument? What if I'm Joe Bonamassa and everything I own is some rare piece that actually gets used on tours?

I played a couple of those at NAMM last year. It's a neat novelty, but not something I ever see needing in my life.

Folding it up wasn't as easy for me as the video shows. There are little grooves the strings are supposed to slip into, and they invariable jumped out of them and ended up flopping around loosely. I had to try it several times to get them all to stay lined up neatly. Maybe I just need to practice folding it up more....

Now that Paul Allen has passed on, I think the market for this thing just shrunk by 50%.

All the rich real rock stars who travel are used to schlepping full sized instruments around in real cases. This is for the CEO who wants to take his guitar with him on business to Tokyo.

I think really it's just a novelty item at best...A bored engineer that plays guitar was sitting around one day and said, "here hold my beer"... :laughing11:

What about the oilfield worker who spends half of his life on a 5-acre manmade island in the Arctic Ocean? I keep a little Traveller Guitars “Speedster” in my quarters at work now but it’s falling apart after many years and the awkward geometry has always given my wrists fits. This looks like it plays more like a full-size guitar, but could still fit into a locker or underwear drawer. I didn’t see a price anywhere on their website, but I’m intrigued....

I think the price is probably what most people would consider ridiculous. It pretty much has to be.

I think it kinda has to be, too. Bare minimum, that hinge has got to be ultra-accurate, crossing the fret top plane the way it does. If closes even a couple thousandths off, the thing isn't going to play worth a damn.

Jumpin’ Jeebus, just found this article:

$2500-2800. A bit steep for a guitar that gets stuffed in the underwear drawer for two weeks at a time, haha! Compare to neighborhood of $400 for the traveller guitar, reckon I’ll just deal with the sore wrists...
