What song(s) make you think of where you come from?

Oh god, I forgot this song.  I take back what I said before, THIS is THE Los Angeles song.  I can't think of anything that perfectly captures how much we hate but kind of love LA here in all parts of Southern California.  I saw The Decemberists perform this at the Hollywood Bowl with the LA Philharmonic to a very enthusiastic audience.  We sang along to the whole thing, every one of us knowing that every word is true.  And yet, even though I hate going into LA, it's always fun for some reason.

What were the ingredients of the Fender Club?
Single coil cheese
headstock ham
2 point tremelo toast
long scale salad

Actually, it was turkey, bacon, capicola, lettuce and tomato on sourdough with chipotle sauce.  It was really good, just a little bit spicy.  The deli is almost next door to where the original Fender factory was.

Fantastic! I was being spicy myself just having fun. My wife is from Fullerton which isn't too far. Great place.
Cheers.

Oh well in that case, if you're ever in town and you want to try the Fender Club, go to Roscoe's Deli on Commonwealth and Harbor.  Then go to Frati Gelato next door for dessert.

This has a profound effect on me, brings up familiar feelings I had when I was a kid, what they are exactly I don't know but it feels really personal :)

Everytime I hear 'Boys of Summer' by Don Henley, I think of being back in Southern California when I was younger.  That song makes me happy and sad at the same time.

The song is evocative for me, also, not of my home (shoot, I grew up all over California, Las Vegas, Arizona, middle-of-nowhere central Utah, never anywhere longer than a year or so at a stretch), but the time I spent in the army when that song was new.

I did spend a significant amount of time in San Francisco as a preteen and have chosen the Bay Area as my home as an adult, and any late-70's to early 80's Journey takes me to that time.

I give you Neal:

That's a nice piece, but thank god for recording engineers and producers. What is it about guitarists that makes them add reverb and echo until there's so much cheesy mush that whatever they're playing is nothing but a barely discernable ghost of the melody they're trying to express? With some guys, if you didn't know what they're were trying to play, you'd never guess what it is.

Wow. That's an old piece. Satriani still had his hair and his chrome I-been-had, Vai looked more like a chick than a cougar, May's either wearing a wig or has stock in Lady Clairol, and Walsh is, of course, timeless. Nice job, overall. Someday, somebody's going to find something original to do with a voicebox. That'll be nice. Then we won't have to hear it for another 20 years or so <grin>
