What size threaded inserts and screws for direct mount humbuckers?

Yeah I have done it. Works like a charm.

I used these inserts (https://www.mcmaster.com/94615A111/) for humbuckers with these screws (https://www.mcmaster.com/90272A084/) no need to drill the mounting holes on the pickups.

For single coils I used these inserts (https://www.mcmaster.com/94615A211/) and these screws (https://www.mcmaster.com/90272A114/) I wanted the larger head to make sure it wouldnt slip through the holes in the covers.

I also use varying thicknesses of neoprene weather striping instead of springs or rubber tubing.

If you don’t mind black oxide finish screws, I can send you some. I bought a 100 pack of 2-56, 1/2” screws in black oxide and 50 matching brass inserts from McMaster Carr for the Shredowhawk and will happily mail you some.

An idea came to me for another use.
I have a Husky (Home Depot brand) rolling tool box workbench with a 3x5’ top.

I like the Rockler biscuits and extension pieces that they use, and am considering installing threaded inserts every 3 to 6 inches or so throughout the top of the bench for holding workpieces in place, clamping, etc….
