What do you guys thinks about "relics"?

You know.  The Fenders that look worn out, but are brand new.  Is it sacrilege?  Is it cool?  Is it stupid?  Is there enough of a market for Warmoth to offer relic'd finishes?

Stoopid! I would hope not. If you want a relic, buy a real one...

My experience at other forums is that these threads do not end well.

In the end, what really matters is the individuals taste. Like me, I love a purple guitar. Around here (where I live) no one likes even the most remote shade of purple on anything. I would like to have a relic, but if I got one it would be a real one that would sit on my wall.

Honestly I do think an old beat up guitar looks pretty cool. But intentional relics seem silly to me. It's inauthentic,it's a lie. They do look cool, but come on. I would never call it sacriledge. Just a bit silly.

I wouldn't think warmoth has a market for relics. Way too work-intensive and cost prohibitve.

Here's my 43 year old, maybe I should beat it with a bicycle chain so it looks authentic.

It would probably create workplace hostility.  A guy in one room pours his heart and soul into a piece.  Pouring precisely over every detail just to have a guy in the next room put cigarettes out on it, drag a chain over it, bake the finish, etc.

You should drag that thing up and down the street a bit, run over it with a car, a lawn mower...Then it'll be worth millions..... :guitarplayer2:

battle damage is cool, but its retarded to buy a pre-aged ax, its gotta be scuffed scraped and scratched in use.

Bit silly to whip your kid because he doesn't look after his things properly, then spend money on a relic...

On the other hand, if it weren't for the market for relics, the guys who do really good ones might be doing forgeries instead...

Poly + relic doesn't go together. Those of us who have guitars with poly and we take good care of them we will die long before our guitars... A guitar needs nitro to look natural aged even if you bought it yesterday!
Although I like old abused guitars, I would never buy a reliced guitar. When I read the extra price a reliced guitar costs I really don't get it... people can do it themselves not pay others to do it. It's funny how some appreciate a company like Nash although this guy admits he buys parts and makes Fender reliced guitars. They pay more than buy the parts themselves and abuse them... Anyway, I like fancy tops and these should not be reliced by any means!

+1, no offense to anyone intended.

I think it's lame. I don't understand why it's cool at all. How come they don't sell reliced cars? My guess would be is no one wants a car that looks beat up. But somehow beat up guitars are cool. I don't get it.

Yeah and that's pretty weird too. It doesn't take much to break in jeans.
Agreed..

I mean yea I fell off my motorcycle this one time and they were immediately....... Oh wait...
I shouldn't admit that..

I also think it's dumb.  It's like cutting your own face with a knife so you have tough-looking scars.
