What Capacitor?

Hello everyone, I am building a Warmoth Strat, like a Vintage 1954 Strat. Was wondering, would you recommend Ash or Alder for Sonic Blue, and which capacitors should I get? Also, any idea on how much wiring I need?

'54 Strats didn't come in blue...  All Strat bodies from '54-'56 were Ash, after '56 all were Alder, except for those with blonde finishes which continued to use Ash. Caps were usually ceramic disk type .050 ones, those can be hard to find, a .047 cap isn't going sound any different really.

If you're trying to re-create a '54 vintage sound, use an Ash body and an all maple neck. There are lots of "vintage" Strat pickup sets available, but it's hard to beat the Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's, especially for the price.

I'd go swamp ash. Don't understand the question "Another question, what should I use in the volume nob, the same one?"; if you're referring to the capacitor, there's only one in a vintage/regular Strat wiring setup as in the link below, disregard the .022 value in the diagram

If you mean something else, please explain

No you got it, but I should only get One capacitor then? I am sorry I am new to this, I will not be building it but I don't know about that. I also am going to buy the sets of wire Warmoth has, 2, will that be enough?

Thanks for your help, if Swamp Ash is what they used, I am going for it!

The Cap is only necessary to allow the tone knobs to bleed treble off without silencing the guitar.  You only need one because both tone knobs share a single cap.

I just finished rewiring a strat and only used one set of the wire from Warmoth, but it was fairly close, especially with keeping things color coded.  If you get two, you should have plenty and that will allow you to make some cutting mistakes :)

Okay thank you guys will be ordering tonight, deciding on whether to get 250k pots or 500k. 250k for Vintage right?

The pots can depend on the pickup you get but most vintage recreation types pickups will use 250k.  I only point this out because I am using the Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups and they use an odd complement of pots.

try the RS guitarworks vintage 0.047 caps.
