Weird Al Yankovic qualifies

I thought the Gorillaz were pretty weird

That's about all I can think of for now, perhaps more when I get home  :laughing7:

Gorillaz freaked me out.  Not in a good way.

I've listened to Zappa so much that I find nothing weird about him or his music anymore. The guy was one of the sanest people, though a incredible workaholic. I kind of feel like he's nomal and everyone else is kind of weird. You're very normal if you think Radiohead or the Flaming Lips are weird. You need to Freak Out! a little.

I think anyone that digs electric guitar should definitely own "Discipline" by King Crimson. That album holds up so well  - it's really amazing.

I personally prefer Larks Tongues In Aspic

Jamie Muir must have been one of the weirdest people ever to grace a stage - no wonder he didn't stay for long. Apparently he really helped Bill Bruford grow as a drummer/percussonist. That '73-'74 incarnation of KC was pretty intense!

If you don't have that album you should definitely check it out - "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea" - - it's pretty amazing. Very powerful and moving recording. It's one of those rare records. I don't want to hype it too much but it's very special to me.

The entire album - The first video is the weird one because when the guy who did the rest of them did this song, 2 minutes of silence got tacked on the end and he couldn't figure out how to get rid of it.

Listening like this annoying because all the songs segue, so there are gaps and parts get cut off. I highly recommend listening to the CD so it can be heard like it's supposed to be.

I seem to like artists that are more mildy strange than actually strange strange. Tom Waits, Björk, Talking Heads, King Crimson, Sufjan Stevens, the Nits (dutch band), Silverbullit (Swedish band aka Citizen Bird in the US) and bob hund/Bergman Rock (Swedish band/their English-speaking incarnation). My attention starts to wander when things get weird for weirdness' sake. Of course, the definition of "weird" is very individual :)

I love Sufjan Stevens!  I painted a watercolor of him playing his banjo for a project I've been working on, and I sent a jpg of it to Asthmatic Kitty Records, and the receptionist there liked it so much she asked for a print of it which she said she framed and gave to Sufjan's dad for Christmas.  In turn she sent me a Come on Feel the Illinois shirt and a free copy of Enjoy Your Rabbit.  I think he is eccentric, but I don't really put him in the same category as Ween as far as the weirdness level.  He has a lot of weird ideas, and his songs are named some pretty weird things, but I don't think the music itself would ever really make me say "WTF", except for a few tracks on A Sun Came and Enjoy Your Rabbit.  My ultimate dream would be to hear a collaboration between him and either Andrew Bird or Yann Tiersen.  That would be truly bizarre and beautiful.

Wow, when I have time I am going to check out all the bands mentioned on this thread in Rhapsody!  I forgot to bring up One Ring Zero, but I doubt anyone has ever heard of them.

I once spend three months listening to nothing but Einsteruzende Neubauten (imagine a bunch of guys pounding on metal in a junk yard and screaming in german) and Dead Can Dance (imagine chamber music from the middle ages) just to see how it would influence my guitar playing.

Ever heard of Crash Worship?  Most insane live band ever.  Lots of fire and nudity.  Lots of drums too.  Dangerous.  Very very dangerous.

I saw those guys here in Raleigh.  You are right on all acounts.  I still have a shirt I bought at that show.

On the other end of the scale, I just remembered these guys:

EN and King Missile, ah the memories.  My fav was always the Pixies.  Guitar solos with broken strings, that was fun stuff to try.  I believe that those three were the basis for my getting into circuit bending, analog synths, and pedal making.  If any one is interested in more noisy fun stuff, try out Bug Brand and the [urlhttp://thesquarewaveparade.com/2dlrsprng.html]Square Wave Parade[/url] for guys that build their own crazy stuff.  I am still trying to get the Analogue Bit Crusher (Bug Crusher) working, But when do you know when you've got it right?  Heh heh heh.  I think Joey Santiago would approve.
