This showed up in the Thrift Shop... errr I mean Showcase
(disclaimer: yes I'm THAT old! Back in the days, the showcase was called "thrift shop" - I must be the only one who remembers  :toothy12:)

So anyways, I'm usually a straight rock guy. But while I was bringing my other project (Warmoth Holoflake Strat) to my luthier, he had a Swamp Ash Strat with 3 singlecoils lying around and I started playing on it through his amp and really enjoyed the clean tones etc. and got this itch in my fingers... you know.

So had the urge to build a 50s style Strat. This will get a vintage style Warmoth neck with a 7-1/4" radius and three '56 Fender Strat singlecoils for surf tones.
I actually prefer hardtails to trems, and wanted it fairly lightweight, so when this 1-piece, 3lbs 8oz body showed up, it was like Jupiter and Saturn aligning!

I opted for a Sunset Orange finish in Satin for an extra kick :)

Actual pics to follow when the body gets here...

Just out of the box.
Couldn't be happier with how it turned out  :glasses9:

I think I like the white pickguard with this.

That sunset orange color with the Satin touch is just unreal... Warmoth are seriously awesome!

That looks fantastic. I have a Mustang on the way in exactly the same colour and this has me even more excited.

You'll love it! I can't believe I never considered this color before. Looks so great on Swamp Ash!

Final mockup before it hits my tech.

I really like it!

That's awesome!  Funny I'm planning to do the exact thing and just happened to see this post tonight. Satin Sunset on swamp ash.  I'm trying to decide between these two and wondering if the roasted swap ash would be too dark, or if it would still be orange and the grain pop more since it's roasted. Having trouble seeing it in my mind. Computer pictures can be deceiving---do you think it darkened your light looking swamp ash more than the photos show?

I'd be very cautious of finishing any roasted Swamp Ash with a trans finish. Please see Aaron's vid for this:

Go to 2:48 mins...

I have no direct experience with roasted Swamp Ash myself, but based on Aaron's video, I'd expect the trans Sunset Orange Satin to turn into a weird brownish color with a slightly red hue.
So yes, I'd expect this to turn out way to dark, and not at all like Sunset Orange is supposed to look.
I'd definitely go with un-roasted Swamp Ash.

I did not find my Swamp Ash Strat body to be darker than in the pics I posted. I tried to match them on the screen to how I see them in real life (but please keep in mind that every screen is a bit different)
