Warmoth satin vs. DIY oil

Looks like I'm going to go with a black korina body with no color finish.  Now the question is do I have W finish it with gloss or satin, or do I take it unfinished and go through the what seems like month long plus process of filling, sanding, oiling?

What does the DIY give me that the W satin finish won't? Color? depth? Texture?  I'm willing to put the work in if it will come out a lot nicer, but if it's only marginally better than the satin...

Opinions?

Depends on how much you play it.  I've got satin necks, and oiled necks (from Tonar).  Satin will eventually gloss up when played a lot.  Oiled is nice, but it's not a hard finish and as a result the warranty is not valid.

Between the two, I like a raw neck the best  :evil4:

I'm actually talking body here.  Full one piece carved top tele in black korina.  They offer both glossy and satin finish on it.

Black Korina is no fun to finish, and neither are carved tops. You'll work your buns off and end up with a finish that isn't as nice as what Warmoth can do. If you want the natural look on the body, let them shoot it with clear gloss poly. It looks good, wears well and isn't terribly expensive.

It's up to you and what you like. I'm guessing gloss will give you the most depth but I don't have a body with a satin finish to compare. You should consider the use of your guitar, if you are a bedroom player or a person who gigs often. Also the climate of your area. Warmoths urethane finishes are more durable than an oil finish although there are many different oils.

Personally I have a great black korina body that is painted natural gloss and that's the reason I have it on sale, it's too glossy & shinny I feel it doesn't match the wood and it's colors. I liked it online (in the showcase) but watching it in person is a different thing. I would prefer a satin finish and most of all an oil finish with no grain filled. I like a raw/old looking finish without any fake relicing.

If I won't sell it it will go from this

to something like this

Thanks guys, appreciate the input.  I think I'm going to just have them do the satin finish and save myself the hassle of the DIY.
