Warmoth Les Paul?

Hi -

Does Warmoth still make Les Paul bodies and necks? I ask because I couldn't find them on the site, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong spot.  If they stopped (hope not), I am wondering why?

Thanks!

Another 2 to come .....

Thank you for your reply.  That's a bummer.

So if I was to look for unfinished LP body/neck on eBay I would then expect to pay through the nose I suppose.

Maybe, since they're no longer available. But, Warmoth's prices are already retail; so they're no bargain. Certainly worth the money as they're very high-quality pieces, but you're not going to make any money reselling their parts even if you build them up in to guitars. So, "previously owned" parts rarely command even half their "new" price, even if they've never been used. I've been watching them for years, and a build for yourself will generally cost anywhere between $1000 and $1500, and will sell for anywhere between $500-$750. On the plus side, if you can do a good job the value to yourself is quite high. What you end up with would often cost you at least double what it costs to build were you to try and get if from a mainstream manufacturer. Plus, it's exactly what you want with higher-end parts, rather than the compromise many "custom shop" instruments end up being.

Only if you bid through the nose. Seriously, what he said. It's still very recent, in the grand scheme of things, and after all, they're still just parts. Unless the latest up and coming rock star makes them famous, then kills himself (seems to be a requirement), then Warmoth gets sold - they'll still just be parts.

Thanks for all the replies.

FYI - I'm not looking to resell for a profit.  Rather, I just have a hankerin' to finish my very own LP as my next project.  I'm also willing to pay the Warmoth retail prices but now realize they are not making them.

This business is funny though.  As soon as something is no longer manufactured people get silly.  Remember the era when Joe Barden pickups were not being made, before his business was reestablished?  Those pickups were selling for stupid numbers on ebay.  I'm sure you can all think of countless examples.

I suppose its economics 101 and basic supply and demand, but the concept seems to get seriously magnified by musicians on our never ending quest for the holy grail of tone. :guitarplayer2:

I can't vouch for the quality, but their prices are reasonable. I'm kinda jonesing for a LPS and an SG Jr from them.

Later. After I finish the Warmoth project I have going now!

I'll be very curious to see what that LP goes for.  Even as scarce as they are now (and even with all of those parts included), I bet it only goes for about $1000.  I may have to eat my words, but I don't think this guy will get his money back.

On eBay, there is no rhyme or reason to what things sell for.  Every now and then a seller joins the site to post in "sell or trade" section.  It never fails they are appalled at our opinions on the asking price.  On one occasion, one of these posters did a victory lap to rub our noses in it post sale.  Well, he didn't sell it to us.

Warmoth is working up a series of four non-lawsuitable, yet sort-of Gibby shapes. They've stuck up two prelims to various "ooohs, awws and yechs" from us, but they're on the way. There are any number of close variant shapes from PRS to ESP to Rondo's "Agiles" that look nice and function the same.

Final price: $990.

I built a single cut JR from these guys.  It's really great!
