Thought it was time to start a thread on this one.
Neck came just before Christmas, thread here -

Wenge neck with bloodwood fingerboard.

I've now routed the body. 7/16" bookmatched Indian Rosewood on 1" bookmatched Flame Maple
Bridge will be ABM individual saddles
Pickups will be SD Blackouts

This is gonna be awesome. Will it be carved at all? It's a little on the thin side already. How much were those ABMs? Last time I checked they were like 40 dollars each...

Wasn't planning to carve it beyond a forearm and belly cut - maybe not even those as it isn't a thick (or heavy) body.
ABMs from www.thomann.de are £11.30 each or ~$15. Some things are cheaper in Europe!

No doubt. When you get right down to it, there's nothing to pickups and no reason they should cost what they do. They're just a coil of wire around a form with some core(s). Even $15 is a bit much, really. But, the marketing weenies have everyone convinced there's something "special" about them, so they add a bunch of adjectives and wish-fulfillment language to the descriptions of the things and charge a boatload of money. Players eat it up with a spoon, so everybody gets away with it.

To be fair, hand-wound and fabricated pickups are labor intensive, so the guys who do that barely make any money even given the exorbitant pricing. It's more a labor of love than anything, for the same questionable return.

I knew that! Yeah. I just got some bad information from my wife... umm... Morgan Fairchild. Yeah.
That's the ticket. She's an idiot! Pretty hot, though, am I right?

Thanks, gentlemen.

A bit of oil to bring out the colour...

The rosewood is so dry I think it'll take an entire can of Danish Oil!

After waitng on a stereo jack socket, it's finally finished.
Tuned mildly to ADGCFAD with 11-58s. I have some Zakk Wilde 11-70s on one of my W six strings tuned to B at the moment so I could go much, much lower but would probably need bass tuning pegs...
How does it sound?

:evil4:

Actually, it's bright without being harsh and has beautiful clean tones and great note separation, even with significant distortion. And a big THANKS to Warmoth 'cos the neck is the best out-of-the-box neck I've ever played; flat radius, perfectly levelled frets, perfect nut means I've got super low action with no string buzz without even trying.
