Warmoth’s Gotoh Route

Long time, gang!  Finally getting some breathing room.

So, I’ve come to a realization about my preferences. I like a 1-5/8” but width, but ONLY if the string spacing at the bridge is not narrow spaced. As it turns out, the 510 warmoth sells is actually the NS510T, designating the narrow spacing of 52.xx mm.

I never knew I had a preference until I wandered into this configuration, finding it cramped all the way up the neck. The standard 510 sports a 54mm string spread, but the block is a bit wider, pushing the trem barrel outwards, as well. While I’m equipped to adjust the current bridge route, I’d rather have a drop-in solution given my limited free time.

Can anyone identify the dimension of the standard Warmoth Gotoh route and maybe shed some light on this scenario?

All the best - been too long!

I don't know metric, but I do know that the Gotoh 510 Trem unit sold by Warmoth is 2 1/8 spacing.  Me, I prefer the 2 1/16 version.  I know thanks to Logrinn that the 2 1/16 version fits the 2 1/8 spaced version route offered by Warmoth.  Gotoh has a website that provides all the dimensions of the hardware.  As to the route dimensions done by Warmoth the only thing I can say with certainity is that the WArmoth website gives the center to center distance for the  posts.

Hi Frank, the Gotoh 510 I have on the quilted purple burst strat I have is a 54mm spacing. When I ordered that body the Gotoh rout was an extra option and is now a standard offering. Long and short of it is that it fits without an issue.

The only difference is the saddle spacing. The post spacing and base plate etc are all the same.

Hey Frank, good to see you. Things been a bit hectic?

Seems odd that W should be supplying the NS version when they specify the 2 1/8" spacing  :dontknow:

According to Gotoh's own specs, the NS is about 2mm narrower 'underneath', so if they do route it very close, it really wouldn't take much to add any necessary clearance - it would only be the top 1/8" lipped part as the main through hole is the same for all trems.

In the interests of comparison...

And this is why you don’t make posts without measuring!  :icon_biggrin: A little dad brain for your mornings haha!  I will measure my bridge and report back.

No more late night musings for me. Ha!  I had it completely wrong.

So now I’m left wondering why the strings feel so cramped from the midway on, especially from the 12th fret and behind. The 59 carve in 1-5/8” is so comfy in the hand, but could the nut width be responsible for what’s going on?

The solution is pretty simple - install a blank graph tech nut and slot it to my preferred spacing. The fretboard has plenty of space left to accommodate the width.

Hi Frank, good to see you posting. Sounds like you may have a good solution in mind, there.
