Time to start a new project , just ordered a Walnut LPS body with the 24 fret pickup spacing,  I'll rout the flat top for a  hollow body and add a Claro Walnut cap I just picked up from Northwest Timber. It will be a 24 fret neck walnut/ebony neck  neck through design  abalone diamond fret markers and 6130 frets . ( low and wide )

Pickups  : Neck Lollar High wind Imperial

BKP mules. Hands down the best option for that guitar. Or any humboogler guitar. Just ask Updown. He likes humboogies, and has a Mule. The mules are the best humbroagles I've heard to date, with Lollar Imperials following close behind.

My ears we're burning  :laughing7:  ..... Yep Mule (neck) and Abraxas (bridge) in a Strat thou.

Which is one of my favorite guitars to play  :icon_biggrin:

The neck is from Carvin  walnut /ebony 24 fret  12 " radius  6130 frets.
I prefer them to Warmoth's necks ( I have 2 Warmoth's , this is my 5th Carvin )  I find the finish work better, there are more choices for inlays and this one was $359 ..to get a bolt on Warmoth that's close
would have been $433 and there are no abalone diamonds available , only dots.

I prefer neck through or deep tenon to bolt on .  It's not much more work to split the body and the profile is much slimmer.

What is the distance between the top of the fret board and the walnut neck thru?  I guess what I am asking is the neck thru section thick enough that it does not have to be capped?

I like what you are doing...but I hate to see a perfectly good warmoth cut in two! :o

The necks are thick enough to not cap,1.7"  but i'm a wood freak , I have 12 gorgeous sets waiting in the wings for future projects.

There are many options  including 5 piece necks ..

As far as cutting the bodies, I agree, and it is a pain but only a small one.

I prefer to start with the body blanks .  Now that I have enough body shapes in my collection ( Strat/Tele /Jazz bass/G4/ LP /LPS/ SG./WGD  it will be the only way I'll go unless I want a different wood core , which was the case for this one.  I always wanted an All Walnut one.

This one I got from : http://www.nwtimber.net  If you get a 4/4 set  have Lewis split into another book match for $25 , you'll have 2 matching sets for a lot less work .

Other great vendors I've dealt with :  http://northridgehardwoods.com/SolidBodyTops.htm  delicious quilted  maple

http://bowriverwoods.com/  - outrageous Aboyna and Maple burl

On the thicker pieces Yvomme will do a second bookmatch for $10  .. thier prices are Canadian .. excellent service

https://www.gilmerwood.com/  Very nice redwood burl

http://volcanoguitarworks.com/index.php?id=home  gorgeous curly Koa

http://www.oregonwildwood.com/category/claro-walnut-top-sets-guitar-woods.html  some sweet curly redwood, curly spalted maple and quilted maple

Some of those wood prices are very good, I'm going to have to forward this to a few people. It "wood" appear that Warmoth, USA Custom and Stew-Mac turn a bit of profit on their blanks, huh?

The Claro seems high , but remember 4/4 is 1" thick so you can get 2 good tops ( 3 if your are good with a band saw)

While I like the warmoth "Unique Choice" tops  I can find better looing wood for much less , and my labor doesn't cost me

Wood sales have fallen prey to the same sort of overblown hucksterisms as everything else associated with music (and most other stuff in America) There never used to be anything called "AAAA" wood, or tops or anything else. You had your A, your AA, your AAA and your Master Grade. Somebody somewhere saw a competitor advertising guitars made out of AAA wood, and thought "well I can stuff that!" Then we got the four-a and then - introducing AAAAA wood. Paul Reed Smith thought he'd leapfrog the whole mess by calling them "10" tops - what are you gonna do? Say " Naa naa - our tops go to 11?" But then Smith realized he'd zoinked his own self, so he come up with the "Private Reserve" guitars made from his own personal stash of wood. A jerk like me might ask, "What were you saving your personal stash for, Paul - why not just make some guitars, huh..." But that wood be mean.
