Hey. Any strat players on the forum using Vox amps? I am considering the AC15 as a small-gig-but-could-be-mic'd-for-more sort of amp that isn't like trying to haul a station wagon up flights of stairs. As a strat player I am pretty much just into blues and really like the single coil sparkle but have also had a taste of the classic Vox breakup and its nice. I could be happy with a bit of a bright amp because you can always roll of the bright, hard to add it if it isn't there in the first place. Thanks for any feedback from start players with Vox amps.

Hey, there.

I haven't played that one in particular, but strats and vox amps are a magical combo.  I've played other similar circuits and it sounds like that little AC15 could be a real gem if it has good reliability.

That AC15 is a real nice piece of kit.  Very nice EL84 chime coming out of that baby.  Very nice clean sound, good gnarly distortion.  Can't speak to durability, but it sure does sound good.

I'm a Vox fan, albeit vicariously. I don't play the real deal, but I've since found I love them for clean and semi cleans over Fender. For raucous raunch though, I still prefer big bottles.

I have the AC15HW and while it's not a Twin it's a big and heavy combo. Heavier and bigger in size than the standard (black) AC15. I can only talk about the version I have, it's a loud amp. You can play in a bar easily, mic or no mic. The HW has a switch that takes the MV out of the circuit, without it it's impossible to overdive the power section.

A strat will sound good just like any other decent guitar. As far as bright the TB channel is bright enough. The Normall channel is not until you engage the Bright switch, then it gets super bright. It works the same way like the switch in BF & SF Fender amps.

Vox has released the AC10. It's lighter and smaller than the AC15 with just the Top Boost channel. No tremolo or Normal channel.

AC15s are great amps.  However, if you are serious you really should go and try it.  Take in your Strat and have at it.

Then you'll know.

Many thanks, sounds like I am going down a good path on this. I didn't use strats when I played the first time around years ago and am discovering new things every step of the way this time with strats and working toward an amp that I like with them. have a good weekend folks.

Check out some of this guy's videos.  He uses a ton of effects but a lot of his sound is a mic'd AC15.

You can NOT GO WRONG with a Fender Blues Jr. It's all tube, has reverb (tube), 15 watts, and an entirely manageable weight....an AC15 is a fine amp, but it is heavy.

15 tube watts can get surprisingly loud. Almost scary if you're not used to that sort of thing. I've got a Fender Super Champ XD that sits on one of those tilt-back stands that'll tear your head off if you crank it up. It'd get lost outdoors or on a big stage, but that's what PA systems are for. In the house? Fuhgeddaboudit. You ain't never gonna dime it.

I have a Vox AC4C10 which is the 4watt model with 10 Celestion designed after the Top Boost AC15. It sounds great with any of my guitars.  Actually it's a great bass amp too.
