Yes the head is tensioned just like a drum, really tight. You know the joke "how do you tune a banjo head? Tighten it until it breaks and then back off just a bit". :toothy10: The luthier i met was just some random guy at a bar but he said he was trained at a workshop here in St. Louis, MO. USA. I know of three local lutherie schools! All of them make guitars specifically. Each are really pricey (I think) at $20k a year. Like all practical projects, careful planning, good tools,practice on cheaper woods and thoughtful execution are the key. Thanks again to everyone!
