VIP vs. Strat dimensions

Sorry, if this has been discussed before.  I searched the forum and couldn't find any old threads on this.  I'm trying to figure out the rough dimensions of the VIP body (current, not old PRS style) vs. a Strat.  I'm saving up to build my first Warmoth and thought I was settled on a rear routed strat style, but lately I have been looking at the VIP.

From comparing pics I've seen, it seems like they are similar in size with just different horn lengths.  Close or not?  If anyone has a side by side pic that would be awesome.

Thanks

They're very close in size. The horn lengths aren't really longer as much as the top one is slightly more deeply cut so you have better high neck access, and the lower one doesn't extend as far...

This VIP happens to be a carved top, but they all have sharper edges than the Strat, which has about a 3/4" to 1" roundover and a forearm relief. It's kinda like a "modern" Strat, if you will.

You'll also notice the super-tricky neck I have installed on the thing - it's very thin...  :icon_biggrin:

I don't own a strat but when my VIP body doesn't feel like a strat. It's thicker and has a different shape. More round (except the horns) and probably shorter. The body has a carved top. It's a pretty fat thing.
I think I would say it's more of a mix between strat, LP and PRS. The horns are making it more strat / shred-guitarish though.

If you want a strat body, go with the strat.

They're actually both 1 3/4" thick at the edges, but the VIP has the carved top so it does get a little thicker at the peak of the carve (~1/2"). Also, the edge roundovers, the forearm contour and tummy cut on the Strat makes it feel thinner than it really is.

Thanks guys, that's exactly what I needed!

I like the neck, very industrial :icon_biggrin:

I've had a strat before and I love them, but I'm not really looking for a traditional strat sound or even body necessarily right now.  I currently play a 335, and I'm looking for something that is a bit faster on the neck(unrelated) and lighter.  But, I'm a pretty tall guy and anything smaller than a Strat body looks pretty silly on me IMO.  I wanted to make sure the VIP was closer to a strat body size, than a PRS or LP.
