While I was messing around in the builder, I noticed that the only hardtail options for the VIP have angled neck pockets. Is this due to the carved-top, and, if so, does that mean that none of the other hardtail options can work?
I'm not sure how to answer that. Didn't you see my cranberry VIP in March's GOM contest? That's a hardtail - a Gotoh 510. I don't recall ever checking it, but from where I'm sitting, it looks like it has an angled neck pocket.
I had emailed them before about that. The portion where the bridge is carved, so a flatmount hardtail won't work. I guess the recessed trems are the only ones where a straight angle neck pocket is doable.
It has it because it is flat where the bridge portion is. The VIP and deceased LP were carved where the bridge is. Not all carved tops are the same. The carved top Tele is flat where the bridge is as well.
From my experience dealing with the sales staff, they can answer that question. Usually the builder will let you know if an angled pock is required based on the bridge type selection.
I think the neck and body builders are great, but for a custom order I will still get on the phone to call it in, can't say enough good things about the sales staff. They have caught a couple items I have overlooked in the past.
