Veritas Open Grain Finish

Does anybody have any advice for attempting a finish similar to the ones Veritas does that they call "open grain" on swamp ash? Also, I would be using aerosol cans exclusively for sealer, color, and clear (ReRanch, StewMac, Minwax, Behlens, etc.)

Looks fairly easy.  Seal, paint, and satin clear.  Could I be over simplifying it?

I'm currently finishing a body with Wudtone because I wanted an open grain and it's a simple process with their finishes. I think almost any finish will produce the open grain you want if you don't use any grain filler, though.

Right. The "open grain" look is the default. You have to work at it to eliminate it.

What in the way of level/block sanding do you think would be required and at what point/s in the process?

None.  Really.  The guitar is likely 220 smooth.  Unless you are really sloppy with the  paint and clear, none.

This did not have paint but just satin clear.  No sanding needed.  I did hit the neck with some 1000 grit just to smooth it a bit.  That’s all.
