hello i need help with an upcoming build.Im going to build a v but i noticed they only have controls for 2 vol 1 tone control .I prefer 2 vol and 2 tones but they don't offer that.My question i noticed on a 2 vol and 2 tone wiring the tones are wired to the volume controls.But on the 2 vol 1 tone the tone is connected to the selector switch.Is this right? Why is this so different then the 2 on 2 ..It does not seem like this would work ...Thanks for any help to make me understand a little better, {This was on the Seymour Duncan site}

Any controls that affect only one pickup come before the pickup switch. Any controls that affect all pickups equally have to come after the pickup switch. Keep reading up on electronics and stuff, it all makes sense pretty soon.

im not going to ask the stupid question WHY.But does having the tone control after the pickup switch have a different sound tone then having it before.I know im alittle confused bare with me.

thank you im still going to try and understand the why of this ........any explanation would be appreciated

Okay, lets see if I can do this.

Think of each pickup as it's own circuit.

It goes pickup, volume control, tone control, output in both schematics.
The difference is that both pickups share a tone control in one schem, while they have individual ones in the other. Therefore, no change in tone.

that i understand .ok since we have 1 tone control its got to be in a neutral place so each pickup can share it.I hope lol

It will affect both pickups, because the pickup selector takes both pickup signals and puts them to only one signal, which is sent to the tone control.

ok i got it wow its about time,,lol...........Thank you...The biggest draw back of 1 tone pot  is the neck and bridge will have to use the same tone setting when switched....unless you adjust it of course.........
