Two Tele Questions

It's been a long time since I've been inside a guitar, and first time in a tele- two questions.  I have my new Warmoth lefty vintage tele body that I'm populating with the electronics and hardware from my Am Std.  Easy one first- the Am Std has a hole drilled up from the bridge pickup routing to the surface towards the bridge- for the bridge ground wire.  Is that the best way to do it?  Better to solder the wire to the bottom of the bridge?  I'm putting in a Callaham bridge.

Second question- the Am Std body has a metal bracket/brace plate about 3/8" inside the jack hole to brace the plug on when you tighten the jack cup nut.  Without that plate there's nothing retaining the cup??  Do I pull that plate out and bend it so it fits in the hole in the new body and then straighten it out after it's in so it digs into the inside of the hole?  Or...?

Thanks for the help.

(when I flipped over the tortoiseshell pickguard it had a Warmoth sticker on it!  The tele is getting its second Warmothization!)

shouldnt have to solder the wire. Some people use a bit of that copper tape to stick the wire to the body under the bridge.

not sure about the second question

Personally I just strip a fair amount of wire and fasten the bridge down. Never had a problem.

And I would recommend the "electrosocket" type of jacks that are held in place with screws, like these:

+1 on both suggestions, though I have used the copper shielding and soldered the ground wire to that in the bridge cavity
