True nut width

I have a warmoth neck that was spec'd at 1 11/16 (1.6875") that is actually measuring 1.699". Is this common for the actual to be a bit wide? I have an upcoming build where I'd actually prefer the bit of extra room over 1.6875" ... so wondering if I order another standard 1 11/16" neck, if it will come a bit fat? Thanks!

I don't know, but I can say I really like warmoth's superwide neck. Combined with a two inch bridge it's very comfy.

I'm not sure how Warmoth's sequence goes for neck fabrication, but generally speaking, you need to grind the fret ends flush after they're installed, usually beveling them to some degree at the same time. It would be good at that point to have the nut already installed, so it gets ground flush to the neck width at the same time. After that, you'd do a bit of finish sanding for comfort's sake. All those operations are bound to take just a little neck meat off at the same time, so I'd expect nut width to vary by some small amount, which is what we're talking about here.

My berry neck (baritone) had 1.691 written on the back when I got it which i guess is it's so called 'true' nut width like you say. I didn't know what that meant at the time but that makes sense. Its gotta be like shop tolerances or somefing, right???

I just remember getting it out and saying "one sixty nine, hell yeah" outloud even though nobody was around to hear it so I walked around my apartment building until I saw someone and I said it again. The guy said "what" and I said "get it sixty nine?" and he said no and asked me for money because i live in a rough area (don't get me started again on the clown incident) and it was a pretty tense situation for a couple minutes until I finally went back and cooked him a hot dog. Nice guy it turns out.
