Tribute Mooncaster....

Time passes, things change, people pass away. One thing that's changed is my plan to do a Lennon style Mooncaster. Still love the idea, and I've archived all the design work for future use, but now is not the time.

My new plan is also a tribute, but one a little closer to home. My maternal Grandmother gave me my first guitar, and my Mom talked my Father into paying for lessons. Mom passed away over the summer, 90 years old, and feisty as ever right until the end. If anyone deserves a tribute, its her. She loved roses....

I think she'd be pleased.

That mockup looks good.
Thanks. I've been doing a few lately and I seem to have gotten better with practice. Thank the Adobe gods for Photoshop!

That's also how I got the pickguard design. Used Photoshop to transform a picture of a Casino guard, the printed out various versions until it fit properly on my Mooncaster body. Then I took Fat Pete's lead and had it made by Scratch-It! in the UK. Just waiting on the order to get through US customs.

Cool, are you using the full Photoshop version or one of the express editions?

I have personally given up on the Creative Cloud subscription as I found overall I was not using everything enough to justify the ongoing cost. So am just wondering how the express edition may fare.

Have you ever tried using the GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)? It's more like a full Photoshop version, but free/open source. Versions exist for Windows, Linux and OS/X. Works well. I've been using it for years, partly because I don't do enough graphics work to justify the $43,591 Adobe wants for Photoshop, and partly because it's never held me back - it's a full-tilt boogie graphics editor.

I use GIMP all the time. I had Photoshop on my Windows installation and went to GIMP in Linux. It's almost the same but with a few differences in how you get the things done. Once I got used to it, I have yet to find it lacking in any way.

Thanks Cagey, and Rgand. I have heard of GIMP and have a copy installed on CentOS VM not jumped into it much yet.

I do have a Photoshop Express version that came with a laptop I bought a few years back but have not explored it yet either.

I've used the express version as well as the full version, too. The express version does do most of the photo/image fiddling you might need. When I got out from under Windows changed to Linux (Mint), GIMP was included with the initial installation. All of them will let you build up a mockup fairly readily. Just pick one and learn it.

Linux and Unix is not a problem I have been using them for years but more for servers.

The express version of Photoshop came on a windows laptop. (Not personally keen on where Windows seems to be headed) I spend more time on Mac except at work.

Just in case you're interested, here's the Linux Mint download page. You can make a live boot flash drive with it on it if you want to try it out without installing. I prefer the Cinnamon version.
