Tremel-No or Hipshot Tremsetter

I'm thinking about getting one of these devices for my floating trem, and am wondering if you guys have any opinions  or preferences.  I know the tremel-no works great when it's locked down, but am wondering if when it's floating the Hipshot Tremsetter may be preferable.

Any thoughts appreciated.

The Tremsetter would require you to drill into the guitar to fit it. 

I find a Tremol-no when fitted correctly does what it says on the tin. Tremsetter and similar products tend to have mixed results reported.

If it's one of those 6-screw Fender-style vibratos, they need all the help they can get. Most others along with the guitar can be set up so such things aren't necessary. Locking tuners and a well-cut nut will cure a helluva lotta vibrato ills, including returning to neutral reliably.

The Tremel-No works as advertised, but unless you keep the back cover plate off, it can't be easily accessed to unlock the trem on the fly.  If this is the solution you're seeking, I would suggest just getting a different guitar.

The Tremsetter is a little fidgety to set up, but it's pretty much a set-it-and-forget-it solution.  Keep in mind, though, that if you like that Brad Gillis "flutter" in your trem use, the Tremsetter will kill it.

I've sworn by the Tremol-No for over a decade!
When it is setup properly, you don't know it is there when it is set to fully floating.
When in Dive Only or Hard-Tail, no D-Tuna is needed, just simply detune the low E fine tuner to D and you're good to go, just remember to tune it back up to E before going into Fully Floating.

I leave mine in Hard Tail when the guitar is cased, or for most rhythm tracks, and for one at a time string changes.

I like Tremsetters, but what amon said above is correct - it can be tricky to get the adjustments right and it's for what I call more deliberate trem usage as it basically works by adding just enough extra resistance around the null position. So it's not the solution if you want to just flick the bar and get a warble. But if you're OK with that, once you get it adjusted properly it works as advertised.

I’m late to the party, but check out the Goldo Black Box. You’d have to order it from Thomman in Germany, but it’s only like 30 bucks. I have a non recessed Floyd set up with a D-tuna and it still floats a bit. About half tone pull up range so i can do vibratos still. With the black box you can still float your Floyd and use the D-tuna without going out of tune. It’s amazing. You can even change strings without the Floyd going nuts. I had a tremol-no and thought it was a poorly made PITA. The little adjustment screws would fall out if a hair too far out, and were small enough that it was had to get a good grip on them to tighten them all the way.

It’s been many years but if memory serves, it was at an auto parts store, a local owned one, not a franchise.

I had a tremol-no like 10 years ago in an Ibby and it was OK. But then I was like, 'wait wait I got this dang ol thing for the Edge trem so why did I do that?' Im all about that finger lickin' tremelo so I gave it a viking funeral.
