I've had this design for about a year (or longer) and decided it's time to get the plan together and build it and add to the the Wood Shed Guitars family......this one will be named "Backwood." Why "Backwood"? well it's an ergonomic guitar and since I have severe back pain this shifts the neck upwards thus straightening out your back in a more upright position....while sitting down.

There are a lot of things I need to decide on but I do know that it'll be a Warmoth body blank, vintage strat hardtail and that's it. I'll route it for the pickup, tone knobs, jackplate and anything else I may need. Haven't decided on a wood for the body yet, need to figure out what tone I want.
Here is what I do know
Neck:
Warmoth headstock
Wenge neck
Madagascar Ebony fretboard (choosing my own wood with a lot of striping)
10-16 compound radius w/6100 frets
cosmo black Gotoh 510 tuners
black buffalo horn nut
1 3/4 neck
Complete Graph Tech Ghost System

Thats all I have for now. Here is a ROUGH pic done on Microsoft Paint so it's not very pretty. I'll lay it out on large graph paper to scale before I start.

Based off this guitar....but "my" version. Very comfortable to play. I know, kinda hard to get the full picture, think I have a better one somewhere.

It is based on the Klein concept. I've had back problems for a few years now (I work construction)and after playing Adrian's guitar (the one in the photo) it was very comfortable. After years hunched over an acoustic it was one of the reasons he changed to this style of guitar. P..L..U..S......it gives me a reason to build another guitar. I'll be buying it piece by piece and project it will be a year before it's complete. The body will be most of the work and isn't to much $$ so it'll be ordered next month....hopefully.

if we are going egro, are we going make it playable in more of a classical position?

These folks appear to have been around the block on this once or twice:

Have fun.  Looks cool.

Kinda reminds me of an ovation breadwinner.... :dontknow:

Jusatele: It'll be played in the "normal" sitting position.....see attached pic for a better idea.

Bagman: I've been on that site and they have some good designs but I'm not a fan of not having a headstock....most of those designs seem to be stuck in the 80's.

DangerourR6: I thought the same thing when I first saw Adrian's guitar years ago. The biggest feature in an ergo guitar is the waist of the guitar. Most all guitars waists are located directly below the pickups. On an ergo the waits is moved closer to the bridge allowing the neck to be tilted up....the further back the more neck angle you can get. That's just a rough sketch I did, I'll be cutting body shapes out of plywood until I get a comfortable position for me.

yeah that looks like a can opener :icon_biggrin: Been going back and for with Adrian on building specs and woods. He has walnut neck, ebony fretboard and swamp ash body. I think I'm still gonna go with the wenge neck.....for now. I've had a few walnut necks and really liked them, I have time.....no big hurry.

I definitely plan and research things to a ridiculous degree. Having Adrian as a friend and mentor/teacher for the last 5 years has helped me in many ways. I mean the guy is a genius when it comes to electronics and what will/won't work, I have the deer in the headlights look on my face most of the time we talk. So if he offers advice 99.9% of the time I will follow it. I’m really surprised that there aren’t more “back friendly” guitars out there for the sit down player. Guess if you want something the guitar companies aren’t offering you gotta build it yourself….or pay someone else to build it…but where’s the fun in that!

seriously thinking of figured Walnut for the neck and Ziricote for the fretboard. Either walnut or wenge but I think I'm going to have to go with the Ziricote for the fretboard. There is a certain look I'm going for on this build and that fretboard will be awsome :icon_thumright:

Anybody have any pics of a Ziricote fretboard?????

I don't think figured walnut is available for necks.. I have only seen it for laminate tops. (also, it will need a finish)
why not an all Ziricote neck? check out Troubled Treble's Korina/Ziricote Strat..

Luke's Soylent Black also has a Ziricote fb:

Marko: I didn't think they did either. I was looking throught the showcase and found a couple figured walnut necks. I wonder if you have to call to inquire about the figured walnut.

If I end up ordering a walnut neck it will be finished in a Tung Oil. I know that it "voids" warranty but it doesnt leave my house and they've been finishing guitars in Tung Oil for a long time. Actually, Stewart McDonald recommends Tung Oil for finishing a necks as do many other builders. Anyways, we'll see if I can even get the figured walnut.

..............of course it does say "rare quatersawn figured walnut" so it may be outta the question.
