To veneer or not to veneer, that is the question

Should I add a matching zebrawood veneer on the birdseye maple headstock?

I keep flip-flopping about this decision. What do you guys think?

Headstock as it is:

Photoshop of what the veneer would look like:

I'm pretty sure I can get a piece that will match up nicely with the body. And keep in mind, if I go with the vereer I'll be painting it the same color as the body... if I leave it plain, it won't get any color.

I say yes.... :icon_thumright:

Better yet, just get the neck made of zebra....for the win.... :icon_thumright:

I'd want it, if I could get Warmoth to do it. Otherwise, I'd pass. Zebra can be a real pain in the ass to work with.

who the heck is the guy who voted "no way dude"

+1.

You would have to be insane to think for even a second that a neck without a matching headstock should be paired with this body.

You could always put 10 coats of poly and then pay your artist friend to paint the zebra stripes on it.  :laughing11:

I think it looks good if you were going to just spray some clear on the guitar, but at the same time I think the zebra and the maple are too close in color, and whenever I think of a headstock veneer it's always a contrast, like ebony or color matched maple. So I didn't really help  :dontknow:

I say do it to it.  There is something about the birdseye that disagrees with the body at first sight.  It's too bad you would have to cover up a good birdseye maple headstock, though.

I think the legecy of that thread will be with us a longggggggggggg longggggggggggggg time around here. We need a name for the technique, should we call it "Art Majored"?

I just noticed this morning that thing's still up for sale, no bids. I almost feel sorry for the guy - all that money, down the tubes. But, whaddaya gonna do? Some lessons are more expensive than others.
