Question on adding veneer to jackson style headstock

Hi,

I'm building a jackson tilt back style neck.

I want to add an ebony veneer (about 2mm thick) and binding, but if I glue it to the top of the headstock there will be a ridge/step in front of the locking nut.

If you look at Jackson SL1 necks for example, the locking nut rests on a piece of the ebony fretboard, then there's a small step down right where the angle of the headstock starts.

Not sure how this is done.

Only thing i can think of is removing 2mm from the top of the headstock, but I have to be really careful to follow the angle line.

Can you post a picture or drawing of what you are trying to accomplish?

This thread seems it may be better in tech talk.
