Thoughts for the future guitar collection

I've pretty much cleared my shelves of anything ebay-able that I don't use. Sad but it was needed. Now all I have left on the shelf is a hardtail strat body and most of the miscellaneous bits including three tuners and a Dangerous neck plate. The body is a botched nitro sunburst, my first. So over the summer and into the fall, I'll need a project that I can collect pieces slowly for, or I'll die of GAS. You all know how it is. Here are some of my musings.

I have realized that every humbucker guitar I buy eventually ends up for sale, so I'm not going to attempt that again. I'll have access to my dad's shop so I can do some routing, and re-finish the body in a solid color, and buff it properly on a wheel. If it's a tele bridge, I can fill the string holes and use the top loader that hipshot sells. Basically I want a telestrater, or a warmothy version of a G&L sc-2 hardtail. Your suggestions, gentlemen? This is all idle speculation of course.

THat G&L SC2 is the bee's knees.

I've had a lot of good luck with the Tele-bridge-P90-neck combo.  I find the P90 much more usable than the conventional Tele neck pup.  Drop that in a Strat or Jazzcaster body, and you're in bidness!

My #1 is p90 tele bridge, and that is my fave overall combo. This one has to be different. Strat neck tele bridge or dual P90s are the two front runners. Have to decide by summer. I have GASed for an sc2 since I first saw and played one, but I know I could replicate the feel and sound, with a better neck shape, for 1/2 the price. I wonder if MDF pickups can be bought? Off to Ebay...

Edit: Yes, G&L sells MFD replacement pups in black and cream.

Who knows which guitar will turn out to be your favorite at any given time. I am going to echo a statement I made previously about designating a particular function to each guitar you have. Like paint in your palette or golf clubs in your bag!

Homer looks really frustrated with his! As I would be with mine. Three moving parts (tele saddles) are plenty in a bridge if you ask me.

Ya, but he started out with 4... :laughing11:

I have a tele envisioned with a P90 in the neck, and a "T90" in the bridge.  Looks and uses the regular Tele bridge, but brings something else to the party.  Someday I'll build it, and then I'll give Ken a call for the pickups, because I know he builds them...
