This year's NFL draft

Anyone have any thoughts/comments/opinions on this year's football draft?

"this year's NFL draft" . . . doesn't really matter until we know if they are going to play . . . . ok, so NFL just plain old doesn't matter at all.

Oh, they'll play. There's too much money for the owners to lose.

I think my Broncos had a pretty solid draft. It will definitely be interesting. I can't wait. :headbang1:

Cam Newton - Bust.

I'm just glad the Vikes didn't pick Jake Locker.

Yeah, but selecting Ponder was a worse selection.  If they really needed a QB, they should have waited a few rounds and grab a solid player and spent their first round pick on a LB or OL.  They are going to regret selecting him as he will be a practice team QB or 3rd stringer at best.  I forget who they selected as a DL, but he is a stud and will keep them solid up front.

Overall there were too many dumb selections made.

I am only glad that my USC Trojans tied for the most amount of players drafted this year at 9 (tied with North Carolina).  Not bad for an 8-5 team that was under sanctions and deemed to be a less than quality team.

Personally, I think the Packers did well to add in components that may be wearing out. I do hope that some of the linebackers drafted can help add a little girth to the middle. Clay Matthews is a standout in the linebacker core, but I have a belief that AJ Hawk would be able to flash some more if he wasn't part of the support aspect of the defense. I don't think he could play the inside to the point of being called the next Ray Lewis, but I think that more could be seen if the opportunity was given. Offensively, there were some more targets added for Aaron Rodgers, which I can never see as being a bad thing, as well as some decent help and the chance to rotate out some linemen who are nearing the end of their careers. If it happens, next season will be fun to watch.

I don't expect to see too much out of Cam Newton. I don't think he'll be the total bust JaMarcus Russel was, but it'll be a few years before we see some high performance out of him, if at all.

Ya. He's no Tebow.

My 2 cents...

Between last year's season, and this years draft, I am embarrassed to claim Minnesota. I may have to join another team. Obviously not the Cheese(but really, we all know it's fudge) Packers.  :laughing7:

You go right ahead fair weather fan. I hear the sun is shining in pittsburgh and the bandwagon is pullin in to new england. Looks like you have some choices, real fans stick it out through thick and thin.

I am contractually obligated to stick by the Vikes as a 13 year season ticket holder.  :tard:  I understand taking a QB in the first round, but a tight end in the beginning of round 2?

I liked Buffalo's draft a lot. Smart picks, good value on players, didn't reach for a QB like a lot of other teams did. And not only did they get best player available-type picks, they also happened to address need positions. Tennessee did reach for a QB, but in their case it's forgivable and otherwise did great I thought. I don't really care about either team and post-draft analyses are totally meaningless, mine included. But on paper and from what I've seen/read about the prospects I like what they did the best.

Cam Newton's far too big a risk for a #1 pick. Peterson was a great value at #5 and to me he's the best of the draft class. Ponder going when he did was a joke and every QB seemed early. I guess Mallett's rumors are true considering how far he fell. Two good safety prospects went undrafted.
