My mom and dad bought a present for my little girl that was supposed to be at their house Monday already, but had been sitting in Oklahoma City til Thursday. It should be there by Monday, but by that time, they'll already be home after visiting us in Michigan.

I don't know if more is coming or not, but I'll admit that for areas that aren't used to it, snow can be a pain. The worst part is when your municipality isn't really capable of moving snow. Up where I live, its a different story. I think my area has already seen several feet of snowfall, mainly due to the help of winds coming off of Lake Superior, creating what's called 'Lake Effect' snow. That has the potential of creating those rare snowstorms you hear about that actually have thunder and lightning.

Shocker, that sucks, thumbs up for UPS.

Here we are monday and it still hasn't moved.

The "Nonsense Tele" body went to spain first... was a mistake from someone on Warmoth that misunderstood SP (Sao Paulo) as Spain :laughing7:

I can see where someone could make that mistake, but if I'm not mistaken, Spain's international abbreviation is supposed to be ES, for España.

I've always got my stuff no problems, particularly from Warmoth, but I have been mentally preparing for the day one of my packages ends up in Austria instead of Australia....

No doubt one day ONE of my internet purchases will come to me with a heap of stickers on it (saying NEIN ADRESS  etc.) and the smell of the Alps! If I'm lucky it might have an Inspector Rex er, Commisar Rex, paw print on it too. :laughing7:

Yeah we have snow in scotland yearly, but britain as a people need to grow a pair. As soon as an inch of snow falls there is wide scale panic; fuel stations run out of fuel and supermarkets run out of bread I mean come on! People here should quit bitching and just get on with it.  :icon_tongue:

Your right about the whole council thing. Our local council are retarded, instead of putting grit down they put sand... as if that's going to help. In our county called Fife 1000 people got broken legs because of the snow over christmas as a result of just putting sand instead of grit; cause they were saving it for the roads and not the walkways. One guy from my village was killed because he was forced to walk on the road as the path was just un-walkable.

In other words instead of being prepared for snow they know comes every year, they are and always have been a disorganised rabble.

I was on holidays in the UK in 1994 and went driving up into the northern part of Scotland. I stopped at a little village a bit away from John O'Groats called Smoo and got talking to the shopkeeper. She told me that they 'lose' older folks up that way every year when the snow cuts everything off. Apparently folks won't move closer to town when they get elderly and insist on staying there, but when they go out to get some firewood or coal the cold feeezes them.... or they catch a cold that quickly turns to pneumonia. I found the roads in Scotland fantastic, best surface I ever drove on.

When I was growing up in Minnesota we'd lose a few every winter - a farmer who'd go out to check the barn without telling someone, if you slip and fall that 30 degree below stuff doesn't take long. The other times would be if your car broke down out in the reaches, everybody had a blanket in their car and you tried to keep your gas tank full up, but once your heat runs out....  :o nowadays, cellphone have taken all the adventure out of it.  :toothy12: But the most people who'd die, year in and year out, were people who'd go out on the ice before it was thick enough - some lakes, some times,  would freeze hard enough you could even drive on them, but that part's still kinda Darwinism in action.

ha, I can't drive yet and haven't driven anywhere else... but folk here all think they are Colin McRae and end up crashing into some poor person and their family. We have some seriously stupid drivers here, that mad dash before the light turns red, that a$$hole cutting you off at a round about. It amazes me how my parents don't use their horn more...

*note to self*
anger management sounds like a plan...

Well........with 5 cameras (at least) in the bus, and a few passengers who would want to be eye witness #1 to a courtcase, you have to be kinda careful driving a bus in Sydney. Checking out the You Tube today and a few of us have made it onto there too. So if ever there's an incentive to drive well, that is it! No use going off and swearing and ending up on You Tube looking a goose - let alone the complaints from the passengers about your driving which could earn you a suspension from officials til you try and find a way out of it. :dontknow:

It's a lot easier being late, driving a little slower and trying to pace yourself between lights. I've learnt a lot about driving a vehicle in the 8 years I have done this job. I could say a lot about what I have observed over these years, but with employers monitoring forums etc. I'd better not say my bit.....

BTW, back on topic to a degree, Sydney had the opposite to blizzard weather last week with 30+ degree temps everyday and boy, were the air conditioned buses popular! Lots of people thankful we had the air cooled down for their trip to work or home. I think it was the hottest week in Sydney ever. Meanwhile we saw footage on TV of the North America continent whited out with blizzard!  :dontknow:

Our bus drivers are the opposite, I remember coming back from edinburgh when there was an accident on the forth road bridge and the que was insanly huge so the bus driver took a detour through south queensferry and this ass in a jaguar (a$$holes only ever seem to drive jags) decided to unload stuff from his car blocking the street while he done it. Having been stuck getting out of edinburgh and now being held up by a selfish boom-boom the bus drive slide his window open and tore him a new boom-boom. it was hilarious, round of applause to the bus driver.  :hello2:

Hahaha! Every now and then, we get to see a compilation of americans versus vinter. It's fun as hell because it seems that you forget about- or don't know that there is such a thing as winter.

Some easy steps to avoid injuries, damage etc.

1. Change tires on your vehicle BEFORE the snow comes.
2. Don't drive like an idiot - which some of you probably does, since we always get pictures of cars on the side of the road, upside down etc.
3. Remove snow from your roof.
4. Stay inside and build more guitars!

You would think that we Norwegians could drive during the winter, but nooo. Seriously, you see all kinds of pillocks driving around, and sometimes, NOT driving around, as they can't seem to know how to drive while the roads are icy and covered with snow, they just spin. :tard:
One thing that really horrifies me, is how people seem not to care about removing snow from their cars. I mean, not only is it really dangerous, but you can also get fined quite a lot if you get seen by the police.
List o' stuff that's quite nifty when ou plan to drive during the winter:
1: Get a freaking garage, shelter... ANYTHING!
2: Get good, spike-free tires. Why spike-free? Because the sound is freaking annoying, and they really don't make such a big difference from un-spiked winter-tires.
3: Learn how to drive.
3 1/2: Don't just buy a driving-license via mail.
4: If you didn't follow 1, get rid of most possible of eventual snow or ice.
5: Get a 4x4, seriously, I mean, cars with RWD might be fun to drive once in a while when it's icy out there, but you ain't a drifter from Tokyo, or a Finnish rally-star (although most rally cars are 4x4, but most rally-drivers are good enough to actually drive in those conditions).
6: Get updated with the current weather-reports, but do also keep notice of the past weather-conditions. Like here near Oslo, now it's currently piss-cold, but it ain't long since there were a few degrees plus(celsius) here, this means that the roads are pretty icy, worse still, if it snows after that, the roads have basically become deathtraps.
