Thinning acrylic paint

Greetings, I plan on using  A preval sprayer to paint a bass body I have and wanted to know if the paint would need to be thinned because it is pretty thick. If so would i be able to thin it with water since it is water based. I heard that too much water would cause it to lose its ability to bond. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Also, could I finish the body with wipe-on poly?

you can use water or you can go to your art supply store and pick up acrylic thinner, comes in a variety of flavors that can alter the final lustre of the paint depending on the desired effect
