deal to me...... :icon_scratch:

People try to put us d-down (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Just because we get around (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
Things they do look awful c-c-cold (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

Why don't you all f-fade away (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
And don't try to dig what we all s-s-say (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm not trying to cause a big s-s-sensation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)
I'm just talkin' 'bout my g-g-g-generation (Talkin' 'bout my generation)

This is my generation
This is my generation, baby

---------------------------------------

Sometimes I feel like being wispy
And once in a while I feel like being dry
But we're doomed and we're drowned
By this feeling we surround
So I hope that I get old before I die

Ohhhhh
It's a long, long rope they use to hang you soon I hope
And I wonder why this hasn't happened
Why, why, why
And I think about the dirt that I'll be wearing for a shirt
And I hope that I get old before I die

Clear off the kitchen table darling
For on the kitchen table I must lie
I'm just tired for my wife
Served the banquet of my life
And I hope that I get old before I die

You know in my 22 years, I've only ever met one person who actually listened to They Might Be Giants, despite the fact that i've known about them since i was at least 8. (I thought Particle Man was the coolest song EVER.)

weirdest song ever  :icon_biggrin:

It's a song with 21 parts.... or.... 21 separate mini songs. On the back of the CD it's listed as 17. Fingertips - the next song is listed as 38. Space Suit. So you can skip to each part if you want to.

I love They Might be Giants!!

I"ve never seen one of their videos though....  did anybody else notice that stop motion cat playing a theremin?

here's one of their "official" early videos

they have a channel on Vimeo with everything

My "Giants" repretoire is limited to Birdhouse in Your Soul,  Istanbul Not Constantinople, and the song used for the Malcolm in the Middle theme.  Like Zappa, Devo, and the Talking Heads, their creative unique genius confused me more than anything.

And for confusing statements that are Who related, Pete Townsend has been called "the World's Best Rhythm Guitarist."  I never knew what to make of it.  Was he really the world's best rhythm guitarist, or was it a back handed compliment because it was Clapton and Hendrix's heyday?

Well he is clearly not a great solo guitarist :) he is a great songwriter though.. and that (and probably his overall leadership) is his main asset in the band..
the musical fireworks came from the rhythm section.
he is good rhythm guitarist though, especially on the accoustic. I saw them in London Maaaany years ago (89 or 90) and he played the accoustic all the way through Tommy. it was really impressive at the time! one of the best concerts of my life too!

I Can't find the actual clip (I have a VHS tape somewhere of that same tour) but this was one of the greatest moments of that concert..
I sat right above the stage, actually right above Simon Phillips, who has to be one of the best drummers ever!

Ignore that one!

I just listened to that whole version and it is not a great one.. the way I remember it. the acoustic guitar was a bit louder in the mix..

I think this is the right one. although the best part (Sparks) is missing

this was the opening song.. I still remember the goosebumbs!

I must grow a long beard and have gray hair and read stories to my grandchildren before I'm six feet under. Except I won't be six feet under.  :cool01:
